Sweden SIM card for Indian travellers: roaming, local SIM or eSIM

A Jio, or Vi roaming pack puts data on your Indian SIM in Sweden. The other two routes are a Sweden SIM card bought after landing and a data eSIM installed in India. Our Sweden eSIM starts at ≈ ₹285 (13 Oct rate) for 1 GB over 7 days, charged US$2.99 by card, without calls or SMS.

Sweden eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need

Journey planners, ferry tickets and offline maps are what a Sweden trip uses data for, so an eSIM for Sweden, set up in India, covers the main need from arrival and keeps your Indian SIM in the phone for OTPs. A Sweden tourist SIM is worth buying only if someone must reach you on a Swedish number, and a Sweden SIM card takes a physical slot. No plan is the best eSIM for Sweden on every trip. Ours runs on Telenor, which our Sweden page shows as 4G. For the rest of a Nordic trip, see our guides to other countries.

India’s Ministry of Tourism recorded 56,945 departures of Indian nationals to Sweden in 2025. We have no leisure share and no 2024 count for Sweden, so we state no growth.

One SIM for all of Sweden? This is a country plan on one host network, and we promise no signal in any given spot. Twelve rows are on sale: six fixed-data plans from 1 GB over 7 days to 20 GB over 30 days, and six unlimited plans from 3 to 30 days. Unlimited plans slow to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day. Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Sweden vs this eSIM

Sweden appears on all three operators’ lists, and the five packs in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026. All add minutes on your Indian number, which our data-only plan lacks. Sweden is in Vi’s unlimited zone, so the ₹3,495 Ultra pack prints its Swedish data as FREE.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.

Table sources: the operator documents linked in each row, checked 13 Oct 2026 (Jio), 13 Oct 2026 () and 13 Oct 2026 (Vi). The ≈ ₹ per GB column is our derivation, price divided by data. Airtel’s FAQ page still shows older prices; its T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list ₹998 and ₹1,298.

A week in Stockholm at 0.8 GB a day uses 5.6 GB (our calculation), which overshoots the 5 GB row, so the 10 GB row at ≈ ₹952 (13 Oct rate) (about ₹95 (US$1.00) per GB) is the fit. For a month, Jio’s ₹2,851 pack gives 12 GB with 150 minutes each way. Our 20 GB row costs ≈ ₹1,333 (13 Oct rate), charged US$13.99, which at prices on 13 Oct 2026 is less than Jio’s ₹2,851, though it carries no minutes.

Each operator starts the clock differently. Jio states: “Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data.” For Airtel prepaid, the days run from when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage. Book up to 30 days before travel: if you do not travel within 30 days, the pack expires with no reimbursement.

BSNL in Sweden: what BSNL’s notice says

BSNL’s international roaming site carries a notice that names Sweden: “BSNL services in Australia and Sweden are impacted by the 2G/3G sunset.” We add no interpretation, because BSNL does not say which services or which customers.

Sweden is on both of BSNL’s partner lists (101 countries for prepaid, 174 for postpaid), but a partner network is not a pack. Sweden is not among the seven countries for which BSNL shows a special tariff. Prepaid roaming needs a special IR SIM: BSNL says “Recharge with STV 1967 for Activation of prepaid International roaming for 365 days”, and the SIM comes from a BSNL Customer Care Centre. Our BSNL roaming guide has the detail.

Sweden plan or the Europe plan for a Nordic loop

A Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo loop is where the Europe plan pays off. It lists Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland among its 41 countries, and the Sweden plan covers Sweden alone.

At prices on 13 Oct 2026, one 10 GB row over 30 days costs ≈ ₹952 (13 Oct rate) for Sweden, ≈ ₹1,142 (13 Oct rate) for Denmark, ≈ ₹1,142 (13 Oct rate) for Norway and ≈ ₹1,809 (13 Oct rate) on the Europe plan. Three country plans add up to about 79% more than the one Europe plan (our calculation); they give three separate 10 GB pools for three installs. A Sweden-only trip needs only the Sweden plan.

Vi’s allowance changes at one border on this loop. Sweden, Denmark and Norway are all in its unlimited zone, where the ₹3,495 Ultra pack prints data as FREE; Finland is outside it, and the same pack gives 2 GB there, as it does in Iceland. No Indian prepaid pack in our table keeps unlimited data across all four countries. The Europe SIM card guide, the Europe eSIM page and the Europe roaming comparison cover the wider options.

Setting up the Sweden eSIM before you fly

You install the eSIM in India, and it connects once you land. Scan the QR code from your order e-mail on home Wi-Fi and switch the line off until the flight. Data plan validity starts at the first connection to a Swedish network, so a QR code install at home uses no days. The access point name fills in by itself on iPhone and Android.

After landing, switch data roaming on for the eSIM line; the data roaming guide shows how. Look up your phone on the eSIM phone list, read the install guide for each screen, and find the plans on the Sweden eSIM page.

Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Sweden

Indian banks text OTPs to your Indian number, and the Sweden plan has no SMS to receive them. Keep the Indian SIM in as a second line with mobile data off. Jio, or Vi can tell you whether SMS reaches you in Sweden on your plan. Vi’s ₹118 prepaid pack makes incoming SMS free for 28 days, other use at standard rates (13 Oct 2026); on Jio, check the MyJio app.

No page can promise that every OTP will reach you. The OTP guide has the dual-SIM settings, and how card payments work explains the dollar charge. We quote no Sweden SIM card price, since we have not verified current local rates.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Sweden?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Sweden as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Telenor; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹285 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹666 (US$6.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹1,428 (US$14.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Will my Indian SIM work in Sweden?

It works once international roaming is on, though mobile data needs a roaming pack: without one, bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. All three list Sweden, and the five packs in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026.

Does BSNL roaming work in Sweden?

BSNL lists Sweden among its partner networks, but its roaming site also carries a notice that BSNL services in Australia and Sweden are impacted by the 2G/3G sunset. We cannot say more than that notice does; confirm with BSNL before you rely on it.

When do the days on a Sweden eSIM start?

They start at the first connection to a Swedish network, and an install at home on Wi-Fi uses none. Jio’s packs start at first usage; Airtel’s prepaid packs start when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage.

Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Sweden eSIM?

WhatsApp uses the eSIM’s data. Bank OTPs arrive as SMS on your Indian number, and the data-only Sweden plan cannot receive SMS, so keep the Indian SIM on as a second line with data off. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.

Is one eSIM enough for Sweden, Norway and Denmark?

Not on the Sweden plan, which covers Sweden alone. The Europe plan lists Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. On Vi, the ₹3,495 Ultra pack shows FREE data in the first three but only 2 GB in Finland.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Check your exact model on our eSIM phone list before you pay. The phone needs to run an eSIM and a physical SIM together, so the Indian SIM can stay in for OTPs while the eSIM handles data.
