Netherlands SIM card for Indian travellers: roaming, local SIM or eSIM
You have three ways to get mobile data in the Netherlands: switch on a roaming pack from Jio,
Airtel or Vi, pick up a Dutch SIM card once you land, or put a data eSIM on your phone before leaving India. Our Netherlands eSIM starts at ≈ ₹286 (12 Oct rate) for 1 GB over 7 days, charged US$2.99 by card.

Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee.
Netherlands eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need
For most visits the need is data, not a Dutch number: train tickets, maps, ride apps and messages all run on it. An eSIM for Netherlands trips, installed at home, works on the KPN network from landing, and your Indian SIM stays in the phone for bank OTPs. A Netherlands SIM card from a shop makes sense only for a local number.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack | ₹589 to ₹6,995 a pack from about ₹194 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from ≈ ₹285 US$2.99 by card; from ≈ ₹67 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Most plans are data only; your Indian number is not on it |
Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 13 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.
The Ministry of Tourism counted 149,532 departures of Indian nationals to the Netherlands in 2025, up from 138,804 in 2024, about 8% more (our calculation). Leisure and business trips made up 64.16% of them.
Our plan uses KPN’s 4G network. Light use, about 0.3 GB a day, adds up to about 2.1 GB in a week (our calculation). That is just over the 2 GB row for 15 days, ≈ ₹430 (12 Oct rate), so the 3 GB row for 30 days, ≈ ₹478 (12 Oct rate), is the safer pick. At 0.8 GB a day a week needs 5.6 GB, past the 5 GB row: take 10 GB for 30 days at ≈ ₹957 (12 Oct rate), or 7 days of unlimited data at ≈ ₹1,436 (12 Oct rate), slowed to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day.
Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule. The best eSIM for Netherlands trips is the smallest row that covers your days and your data.
eSIM for the Netherlands: most chosen plans
Charged US$2.99 by card. Your bank converts the US$ charge at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee — how card payment works.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in the Netherlands vs this eSIM
Each pack below works in the Netherlands and adds minutes on your Indian number, which a data eSIM does not. The five packs in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026. Vi’s ₹3,495 Ultra pack prints its data as FREE here, because the Netherlands sits in Vi’s UL zone.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
| Pack | Price | Data · days | Calls · SMS | ≈ ₹ per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jio IR Voice & Data (100 countries) | ₹951 | 4 GB · 10 days | 100 min out + 100 in · 25 SMS | about ₹238 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 5 days | ₹998 | 4 GB · 5 days | 150 min · 20 SMS | about ₹250 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 10 days | ₹1,298 | 6 GB · 10 days | 200 min · 20 SMS | about ₹216 |
| Vi prepaid Ultra, 7 days (UL zone) | ₹3,495 | data printed as FREE · 7 days | unlimited calls | not applicable |
| Vi prepaid Budget, Set 1 | ₹1,495 | 2 GB · 15 days | 200 min | about ₹748 |
Source: the operator document (Jio plan list · Airtel T&C PDF · Vi prepaid T&C PDF), checked on 13 Oct 2026. The ≈ ₹ per GB column is our derivation (price ÷ GB). Airtel’s FAQ page still shows older prices; its T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list ₹998 and ₹1,298.
A pack wins when you need to call home on your own number:
Airtel’s ₹1,298 prepaid pack carries 200 minutes over 10 days, and Vi’s Ultra pack adds unlimited calls. Our unlimited rows include no calls and slow after 3 GB a day.
For data alone, 5 GB over 30 days on our Netherlands plan costs ≈ ₹670 (12 Oct rate), about ₹134 (US$1.40) per GB, charged US$6.99, plus any markup your card issuer applies.
Data plan validity starts differently. Jio states: “Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data.” Airtel lets you book a prepaid pack up to 30 days before travel; it starts when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage, and a pack not used within those 30 days expires with no reimbursement.

A week in the Netherlands: roaming pack vs eSIM
1.3× cheaper5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it.
Operator packs also carry calls and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s ₹ price, as listed on 13 Oct 2026; the eSIM at the market rate of 13 Oct, charged in US$. Work out your own trip.
Data-only or a plan with a Dutch number
The Netherlands is one of the few destinations where we sell plans with a local number. They let you call numbers inside the Netherlands and take incoming international calls; none of them calls India. Pick one only if someone in the Netherlands has to ring you, because the data-only rows cost less for the same data.
On 12 Oct 2026, 10 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹957 (12 Oct rate) data-only and ≈ ₹2,202 (12 Oct rate) with a Dutch number, which also brings 100 local minutes and 100 SMS. These plans carry the “Local number” label on the Netherlands eSIM page.
The extra cost pays off when a landlord, an employer or a courier will only phone a Dutch number. A physical Netherlands SIM card from a local operator does the same job but needs a free slot; on a single-slot phone it takes the place of your Indian SIM.
Netherlands plan or the Europe plan for Amsterdam plus Paris or Brussels
A trip that stays inside the Netherlands needs only the Netherlands plan. Add a train to Brussels or Paris and the Europe plan is the simpler choice: it lists 41 countries, the Netherlands, Belgium and France among them, so one eSIM covers the whole route with a single install.
The country plan costs less for the same data. On 12 Oct 2026, 5 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹670 (12 Oct rate) on the Netherlands plan and ≈ ₹1,148 (12 Oct rate) on the Europe plan; 10 GB costs ≈ ₹957 (12 Oct rate) and ≈ ₹1,819 (12 Oct rate).
On Android, the Europe plan needs its access point name typed in from your order e-mail; the Netherlands plan configures itself. On Vi, all three countries sit in the UL zone, so Ultra data stays FREE across the route. See the Europe SIM card guide, the Europe eSIM page, the Europe roaming comparison and the France guide.
Setting up the Netherlands eSIM before you fly
Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad. Do the QR code install on home Wi-Fi with the code from your order e-mail, then leave the line off until the flight. The plan counts its days from the first connection to a Dutch network and sets its own network settings.
Confirm your model on the eSIM phone list before paying; the install guide shows the screens, and our other country guides cover the rest of a route.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
Bank OTPs and your Indian number in the Netherlands
Bank OTPs come by SMS to your Indian number. None of our Netherlands plans carries that number, the Dutch-number ones included. Keep the Indian SIM in the phone as a second line with mobile data off, and ask Jio, Airtel or Vi before the trip whether SMS reaches you in the Netherlands on your plan.
For incoming SMS alone, Airtel’s prepaid IR activation (it needs an active base pack) and Vi’s incoming-SMS pack each cost ₹118 for 28 days, as listed on 13 Oct 2026.
No page can promise that every OTP will reach you. The OTP guide explains the dual-SIM settings, and how card payments work covers the checkout.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in the Netherlands?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats the Netherlands as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find KPN; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹285 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹666 (US$6.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹1,428 (US$14.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Will my Indian SIM work in the Netherlands?
A Jio,
Airtel or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. The five packs in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026.
Do I need a Dutch number?
Rarely. A Dutch number helps when a landlord, employer or courier in the Netherlands has to phone you. Our local-number plans let you call within the Netherlands and take incoming international calls; none of them calls India. Maps, tickets and chat apps need only data, so a Netherlands SIM card is optional.
When do the days on a Netherlands eSIM start?
On its first connection to a Dutch network. Installing it in India on Wi-Fi uses none of its days. Jio’s packs start at first usage, and Airtel’s prepaid packs when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage.
Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Netherlands eSIM?
WhatsApp chats and calls over the internet use the eSIM’s data. Bank OTPs are SMS to your Indian number, which none of our plans carries, so leave your Indian SIM switched on as a second line. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.
Is one eSIM enough for the Netherlands and Belgium?
Yes, if it is the Europe plan; the Netherlands plan covers only the Netherlands. The Europe plan lists 41 countries, Belgium and the Netherlands among them. On Android it needs its access point name entered by hand.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Look up your exact model on our eSIM phone list before you pay. You need a phone that runs an eSIM and a physical SIM together, so the Indian SIM can stay in for OTPs.
