Denmark SIM card for Indian travellers: roaming, local SIM or eSIM

Colourful harbour houses and wooden boats along a canal in Copenhagen, Denmark
A Copenhagen canal: what a Denmark SIM card or eSIM gives you on arrival.

Your Indian SIM can carry data in Denmark on a Jio, or Vi roaming pack. The other two routes are a Danish SIM bought after landing and a data eSIM installed in India. Our Denmark eSIM starts at ≈ ₹286 (12 Oct rate) for 1 GB over 7 days, charged US$2.99 by card, and has no calls or SMS.

Denmark eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need

In Copenhagen you lean on data far more than on a Danish number: rail apps, maps and messages all run on it. A data eSIM set up in India gives you that from the airport onward and leaves your Indian SIM free for bank OTPs. Buy a Denmark SIM card only when someone there must ring you locally. Going on from Copenhagen? Our SIM guides for other countries cover the next stop.

India’s Ministry of Tourism recorded 43,531 departures of Indian nationals to Denmark in 2025. We have neither a leisure share nor a 2024 count for Denmark, so we state no growth.

Looking for one SIM for all of Denmark? Each Denmark plan is a country plan on one host network, which the Denmark page lists as 3, with 5G; we promise no signal in any given spot. Twelve sizes are on sale: 1 GB for 7 days, 2 GB for 15 days, 3, 5, 10 or 20 GB for 30 days, and unlimited data for 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days. Unlimited plans keep going after 3 GB in a day, but at 1 Mbps. Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Denmark vs this eSIM

Jio, and Vi each sell roaming packs that list Denmark, and the six in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026. Every one adds minutes on your Indian number, which our data-only eSIM lacks. Vi’s ₹3,495 Ultra pack stands out: Vi prints its Denmark data as FREE, because Denmark sits in Vi’s unlimited zone.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.

FREE on Vi’s sheet and unlimited on ours are not the same promise. Our 7-day unlimited plan costs ≈ ₹1,436 (12 Oct rate), charged US$14.99, and drops to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day; the Vi pack also covers calls on your Indian number. A month with 10 GB on our plan costs ≈ ₹1,148 (12 Oct rate), about ₹115 (US$1.20) per GB, plus any markup your card issuer applies.

A fortnight outlasts every 5-, 7- and 10-day row. In our table, Jio’s ₹1,551 pack lasts exactly 14 days and the ₹2,851 pack runs 30. Outside the table, Airtel’s ₹2,998 prepaid pack (10 GB, 30 days) and Vi’s ₹5,195 Ultra pack (14 days, data printed as FREE in Denmark) also cover two weeks, as listed on 13 Oct 2026.

The Vi verdict shifts inside the Nordics. Sweden and Norway share Denmark’s unlimited zone, but Finland is outside it, and there the same ₹3,495 pack carries 2 GB and 200 minutes. Jio states: “Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data.” Airtel counts a prepaid pack from when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage; book it up to 30 days before travel, because an unused pack expires with no reimbursement.

Denmark plan or the Europe plan for Copenhagen plus Sweden or Norway

Buy the Denmark plan for a Denmark-only trip and the Europe plan when the route crosses a border. The Europe plan lists Sweden and Norway; the Denmark plan is for Denmark alone. For 10 GB over 30 days, the Denmark plan costs ≈ ₹1,148 (12 Oct rate) and the Europe plan ≈ ₹1,819 (12 Oct rate), so you pay more for the crossing, not for extra data.

A day over the Øresund bridge to Malmö, or a leg on to Oslo, is where the Europe plan earns that price: one install and no swap at the border. The Europe SIM card guide, the Europe eSIM page, the Norway guide and the Europe roaming comparison cover the wider route.

Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM bought in India

A Denmark SIM card bought from a local operator goes into a physical slot. If your phone has only one, the Indian SIM comes out and bank OTPs stop reaching you until it goes back in. We quote no Denmark SIM card price because we have not verified current rates, and no plan is the best eSIM for Denmark on every trip.

A Denmark tourist SIM picked up as a local SIM on arrival gives you a Danish number. An eSIM for Denmark bought from India sits beside your Indian SIM and is ready before you board.

Setting up the Denmark eSIM before you fly

Set the eSIM up in India over home Wi-Fi by scanning its QR code; it connects when you land in Denmark. A QR code install at home uses no days, because data plan validity starts with the first connection to a Danish network. On iPhone and Android the plan fills in its access point name by itself.

Once you land, turn data roaming on for the eSIM line. Before paying, look up your model on the eSIM phone list; screen-by-screen steps are in the install guide, and the plans are on the Denmark eSIM page.

Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Denmark

OTPs from your bank travel as SMS to your Indian number. The Denmark plan has no SMS, so they cannot land on it. Leave the Indian SIM in as a second line with its mobile data switched off. Vi’s ₹118 prepaid pack makes incoming SMS free for 28 days, with other use at standard rates (13 Oct 2026); on Jio, check incoming SMS in the MyJio app.

No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; the OTP guide covers the dual-SIM settings.

Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Denmark?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Denmark as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find 3; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹285 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹761 (US$7.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹1,428 (US$14.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Will my Indian SIM work in Denmark?

Yes, once international roaming is on, but plan on a roaming pack for mobile data: without one, bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. Jio, Airtel and Vi all list Denmark, and the six packs in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026.

Do I need to buy a SIM card in Denmark?

Only when you need a Danish number. Otherwise an eSIM set up in India gives you data from landing. A Denmark SIM card takes a physical slot, so on a single-slot phone your Indian SIM, and its OTPs, stay out until you swap back.

When do the days on a Denmark eSIM start?

With the first connection to a Danish network; installing at home over Wi-Fi uses no days. Jio packs start at first use, and Airtel prepaid packs when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage.

Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Denmark eSIM?

WhatsApp works over the eSIM’s data. Bank OTPs are SMS to your Indian number, and the Denmark plan cannot receive SMS, so keep that SIM active as a second line with its data off. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.

Is one eSIM enough for Denmark and Sweden?

Not on the Denmark plan, which is for Denmark alone. The Europe plan lists Denmark, Sweden and Norway. On Vi, the ₹3,495 Ultra pack shows FREE data in all three but only 2 GB in Finland.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Look up your exact model on our eSIM phone list before paying. The phone has to run an eSIM and a physical SIM at once, so the Indian SIM can stay in for OTPs while the eSIM handles data.
