For mobile data in Egypt you can use an or Vi roaming pack, a Jio data pack (Jio sells no Egypt pack with calls), an Egypt SIM card bought after landing, or a data eSIM installed in India. Airtel’s ₹998 prepaid pack gives 4 GB over 5 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026.

Egypt eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need

An eSIM for Egypt installed in India works as soon as you land: 1 GB over 7 days costs ≈ ₹334 (12 Oct rate), charged US$3.49 by card. It runs on Egypt’s 4G network and has no calls and no SMS. The storefront has nine plans, three of them unlimited data.

Those three last 3, 5 and 10 days and slow to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day. An Egypt tourist SIM is a physical card that needs a free SIM slot; we have not verified current local offers, so we quote no Egypt SIM card price in Egyptian pounds. Indian nationals made 60,788 departures to Egypt in 2025 (Ministry of Tourism). Our destination guides for Indian travellers cover the other routes.

The data plan validity starts at the first connection to a network in Egypt, so installing at home uses none of its days. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Jio has only data packs for Egypt: what Airtel and Vi offer

Egypt is missing from Jio’s 100-country, 75-country and World Pack lists. Only Jio’s data packs include it, and those carry no minutes; in Kenya, not even the data packs do. covers Egypt in its single pack set, and Vi in its prepaid non-UL zone and Budget Set 2. The five packs below cost ₹599 to ₹1,495 as listed on 12 Oct 2026.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.

Jio’s Global Pack, a pay-as-you-go balance spent at standard roaming rates, also lists Egypt; the Jio roaming guide sets out Jio’s pack families.

For a Jio user the choice is between data without calls and a pack from another operator. Our 5 GB row for 30 days works out at about ₹335 (US$3.50) per GB, charged US$17.49. On 12 Oct 2026 that was below both Jio data packs and above both Airtel rows. Airtel suits a trip of up to 10 days with calls on your Indian number. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.

Egypt plan, Middle East plan or Africa plan

Egypt appears in two of our regional plans besides its own: the Middle East plan with 13 countries and the Africa plan with 36. On 12 Oct 2026 the Egypt plan cost less than either at comparable sizes, so pick a regional plan only for a route through more countries.

The Middle East plan sells unlimited data only, from 3 to 30 days, with the same 1 Mbps limit after 3 GB a day. Its 3-day plan costs ≈ ₹2,202 (12 Oct rate) against ≈ ₹1,867 (12 Oct rate) on the Egypt plan, and its 10-day plan ≈ ₹4,980 (12 Oct rate) against ≈ ₹3,351 (12 Oct rate).

The Africa plan has no unlimited rows; its 1 GB row for 7 days costs ≈ ₹1,148 (12 Oct rate) against ≈ ₹334 (12 Oct rate). It also needs its APN entered by hand on Android, while the Egypt plan sets it automatically (APN guide).

Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM set up in India

A local SIM on arrival gives you an Egyptian number, but on a one-slot phone it takes the place of your Indian SIM. The eSIM leaves the Indian SIM where it is. Our plan details name no coverage areas, so we promise nothing specific for a Nile cruise or the desert.

For a week of social media and photos, the data guide uses 0.8 GB a day, about 5.6 GB (our calculation): the 10 GB row at ≈ ₹3,064 (12 Oct rate) covers it, and the 5 GB row at ≈ ₹1,675 (12 Oct rate) suits lighter use. The QR code install happens in India on home Wi-Fi.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Egypt

The Egypt eSIM gives you data and nothing else: no number, no SMS. Bank OTPs still go to your Indian number, so that SIM stays in the phone as a second line. Ask Jio, or Vi whether incoming SMS works for you in Egypt; a Jio data pack carries data only.

No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; dual-SIM settings are in the OTP guide.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Egypt?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Egypt as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Vodafone; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹334 (US$3.49). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹1,675 (US$17.49). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 10 days, ≈ ₹3,351 (US$34.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Will my Indian SIM work in Egypt?

A Jio, or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. For Egypt, Jio sells data packs only.

Do I need to buy a SIM card in Egypt?

Only if you want an Egyptian number. A roaming pack or an eSIM installed in India covers data, and your Indian SIM stays in the phone.

When do the days on an Egypt eSIM start?

On the eSIM’s first connection to a network in Egypt. Installing it in India before you fly costs none of the plan’s days.

Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with an Egypt eSIM?

WhatsApp messages run on the eSIM’s data. OTPs are SMS to your Indian number; the data-only eSIM cannot receive them, so keep the Indian SIM switched on.

Does Jio international roaming work in Egypt?

Only through Jio’s data packs: ₹599 for 1 GB over 7 days or ₹999 for 2 GB over 14 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026, with no minutes. Confirm in the MyJio app.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Check the exact model on our eSIM phone list before you pay; Indian versions of a phone can differ from foreign ones.
