Jordan eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need

A Jordan route of Amman, Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea leans on mobile data for maps, taxi apps and booking confirmations. A Jordan eSIM supplies data from landing and keeps your Indian SIM in the phone for OTPs. A Jordan tourist SIM bought as a local SIM on arrival matters only if you need a local number for calls. No plan is the best eSIM for Jordan on every trip. Travelling on to a neighbouring country? See our SIM guides for other countries.

A physical Jordan SIM card from a local operator needs a free slot; on a single-slot phone it replaces the Indian SIM. We quote no Jordan SIM card price in dinars because we have not verified current rates. India’s Ministry of Tourism counted 22,255 departures of Indian nationals to Jordan in 2025.

Of Jordan’s local networks, our plans run on JO, on 4G, with data only and no calls or SMS. The catalogue has six plans, all fixed data: 1 GB for 7 days, 2 GB for 15 days, and 3, 5, 10 or 20 GB for 30 days. There is no unlimited Jordan plan. Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule.

Airtel and Vi packs in Jordan, and Jio’s data-only option

Jordan is in Jio’s data-pack list and its Global Pack list, and in no other Jio list. The six rows below cost ₹599 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026. and Vi each sell packs with minutes that list Jordan; Jio’s Jordan packs carry none.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.

Every row links to the operator’s document as read on 13 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our own division of price by data. Jio’s data packs come in other sizes, and we quote no country count for them. Jio’s Global Pack balance also names Jordan, but it is a balance spent at standard rates, not data. Airtel’s T&C carry the date 24 Sep 2026, and its FAQ page still shows older prices.

Vi gives Jordan less data for two separate reasons. Jordan is in the non-UL prepaid zone, so Ultra carries 2 GB and 200 minutes instead of data printed as FREE. It is also in Budget Set 2, where ₹1,495 carries 750 MB. Vi’s postpaid terms list Jordan in Set 2, and we could not confirm that this table is current.

Jio holders get data without calls on the Indian number. Our 2 GB plan for 15 days costs ≈ ₹809 (13 Oct rate), charged US$8.49 by card; on 13 Oct 2026 that was less than Jio’s ₹999 for 2 GB over 14 days. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. The ≈ ₹ price (charged in USD) is an estimate at the day’s rate.

Ten days is the awkward length: no Jordan row lasts 10 days, so you pick 7 or 15 days at purchase. At 0.3 GB a day ten days come to about 3 GB (our calculation, profiles from the data guide), which fits the 30-day 3 GB plan at ≈ ₹1,333 (13 Oct rate). Airtel’s ₹1,298 pack covers exactly 10 days with 6 GB and 200 minutes, so on 13 Oct 2026 it cost about the same as that 3 GB plan for twice the data. Airtel prepaid packs book up to 30 days before travel; if you do not travel within 30 days, the pack expires with no reimbursement. Airtel’s prepaid validity starts when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage. See the Airtel roaming page.

Vi roaming12 × 500 MB · 5 days ₹9,060

Operator packs also carry calls and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s ₹ price, as listed on 13 Oct 2026; the eSIM at the market rate of 13 Oct, charged in US$. Work out your own trip.

Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea: what the plan does and does not promise

We hold no coverage data for the Petra site, Wadi Rum camps or the Dead Sea shore, so ask us before you rely on mobile data at any of them. The plan runs on JO alone, and we hold no map of where that network is strong. Download offline maps for each day’s route over hotel Wi-Fi before you set off.

Size a week by daily use, not by the sites. At 0.3 GB a day seven days are about 2.1 GB, just over the 2 GB row, so the 3 GB plan is the one that fits. At 0.8 GB a day seven days come to about 5.6 GB, which points to the 10 GB plan at ≈ ₹2,476 (13 Oct rate).

Our data plan validity starts at the first connection to a Jordanian network, so landing in Amman starts the clock and installing at home does not.

Jordan with Israel or Egypt: country plans or the Middle East plan

The Middle East plan lists Jordan, Israel and Egypt among 13 countries and sells unlimited plans only, at 3 GB a day and then 1 Mbps. Its 7-day row costs ≈ ₹3,906 (13 Oct rate), charged US$40.99, and its 10-day row ≈ ₹4,954 (13 Oct rate).

For fixed data, buy two plans. On 13 Oct 2026 Jordan 5 GB over 30 days cost ≈ ₹2,000 (13 Oct rate), the Israel data-only plan with the same 5 GB ≈ ₹761 (13 Oct rate) and Egypt 5 GB ≈ ₹1,666 (13 Oct rate). We give prices only, no verdict: unlimited at 3 GB a day and two fixed pools are different products. See the Israel guide, the Egypt guide and the Middle East eSIM page. The Middle East plan sets its access point name automatically on Android; the Jordan plan does not.

Setting up the Jordan eSIM before you fly (manual APN on Android)

Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land in Jordan. First confirm your model on the eSIM phone list. Then buy on the Jordan eSIM page and do the QR code install while you are still on home Wi-Fi. Once you are in Jordan, switch data roaming on for the eSIM line only.

On an iPhone the access point name fills itself in. On Android you type it once: the value is on your order page and in the order e-mail, and the APN guide shows the menu. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Jordan

Your bank sends OTPs as SMS to the Indian number, and a data-only Jordan eSIM has no SMS at all. So the Indian SIM stays in the phone as a second line, with its own mobile data switched off. Ask your operator whether texts reach that line in Jordan on your plan; no page can promise that every OTP will arrive.

On prepaid, the ₹118 IR activation runs 28 days at standard rates, “allows unlimited incoming SMS” and needs an active base pack. On Vi, a separate ₹118 standard-rates pack makes incoming SMS free for 28 days. On Jio, look in the MyJio app. The OTP guide walks through the dual-SIM settings.

Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Jordan?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Jordan as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Zain JO; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹333 (US$3.49). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹2,000 (US$20.99).

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Will my Jio SIM work in Jordan?

Once international roaming is on, yes, but Jio’s Jordan options are data packs with no calls (₹599 for 1 GB over 7 days) and the Global Pack balance. Jio sells no voice-and-data pack for Jordan (13 Oct 2026).

Does Airtel international roaming cover Jordan?

Yes. advertises 189 countries on one pack set, and Jordan is one of them. Prepaid ₹998 buys 4 GB and 150 minutes for 5 days (13 Oct 2026). Without a pack, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad.

Which Jordan plan fits a 10-day trip?

No plan lasts exactly 10 days. For about 3 GB take the 30-day 3 GB plan; the 15-day plan holds only 2 GB. For unlimited data over 10 days, the Middle East plan lists Jordan and has a 10-day row.

Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Jordan eSIM?

WhatsApp messages go over the eSIM’s data. OTPs reach your Indian number by SMS, which this data-only eSIM cannot receive, so keep the Indian SIM active in the phone.

Is there one eSIM for Jordan and Egypt?

Only on unlimited data. The Middle East plan lists Jordan, Israel and Egypt but sells no fixed-GB plans. For fixed GB, buy a Jordan plan and an Egypt plan.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Our eSIM phone list shows whether your exact model takes an eSIM; a model not listed should be treated as no.
