Kuwait eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need
For a visit to Kuwait, data matters more than a Kuwaiti number. The eSIM connects to
STC or
Zain, both 5G, as soon as you land. Your Indian SIM stays in the phone, because bank OTPs still go to that number.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack | ₹589 to ₹6,995 a pack from about ₹194 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from ≈ ₹286 US$2.99 by card; from ≈ ₹153 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your Indian number |
Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 12 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.
The Ministry of Tourism counted 978,475 departures of Indian nationals to Kuwait in 2025, about 8% more than the 906,965 of 2024 (our calculation). Only 27.94% were leisure or business trips, against 33.35% for Qatar and 37.42% for Oman. The MEA counts 1,036,389 non-resident Indians in Kuwait (January 2026).
The 7-day unlimited data plan for Kuwait costs ≈ ₹2,825 (12 Oct rate) and slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day. Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule.

Charged US$2.99 by card. Your bank converts the US$ charge at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee — how card payment works.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Kuwait vs this eSIM
Kuwait is the one Gulf country besides the UAE in Vi’s prepaid UL zone, so Vi’s ₹3,495 Ultra pack prints its data there as FREE. The six prepaid packs below cost ₹599 to ₹3,495 as listed on 12 Oct 2026. All but Jio’s ₹599 data pack include minutes on your Indian number.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
| Pack | Price | Data · days | Calls · SMS | ≈ ₹ per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jio IR Voice & Data (100 countries) | ₹951 | 4 GB · 10 days | 100 min out + 100 in · 25 SMS | about ₹238 |
| Jio IR data pack | ₹599 | 1 GB · 7 days | no calls | about ₹599 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 5 days | ₹998 | 4 GB · 5 days | 150 min · 20 SMS | about ₹250 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 10 days | ₹1,298 | 6 GB · 10 days | 200 min · 20 SMS | about ₹216 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 30 days | ₹2,998 | 10 GB · 30 days | 300 min · 20 SMS | about ₹300 |
| Vi prepaid Ultra, 7 days (UL zone) | ₹3,495 | data printed as FREE · 7 days | unlimited calls | not applicable |
Source: the operator document (Jio international roaming · Airtel roaming T&C · Vi roaming T&C), checked on 12 Oct 2026. The ≈ ₹ per GB column is our derivation (price ÷ GB). Airtel’s FAQ page still shows older prices; its T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list ₹998 and ₹1,298.
Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia sit in Vi’s non-UL zone, where the same Ultra pack carries 2 GB.
Jio’s description of its Gulf Pack says UAE only, while another note on the same page lists six Gulf countries — confirm in the MyJio app before you rely on it outside the UAE.

A week in Kuwait: roaming pack vs eSIM
5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it.
Operator packs also carry calls and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s ₹ price, as listed on 12 Oct 2026; the eSIM at the market rate of 12 Oct, charged in US$. Work out your own trip.
Visiting family in Kuwait: the first days before a local SIM
A family visit still starts at the airport, where you need data to message home or find a ride. An eSIM installed in India works from landing, so day one does not depend on a local card. Size the plan to the length of your stay. If Kuwait is one stop of several, our destination-by-destination SIM guides cover the others.
For 10 days,
Airtel’s ₹1,298 pack gives 6 GB; our 10-day unlimited data plan costs ≈ ₹3,351 (12 Oct rate) and slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day. For about a month, Airtel’s ₹2,998 pack gives 10 GB over 30 days, and Vi’s ₹6,995 prepaid pack 15 GB over 28 days in Kuwait (both as listed on 12 Oct 2026).
Our 10 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹1,915 (12 Oct rate), about ₹192 (US$2.00) per GB, charged US$19.99, plus any markup your card issuer applies.
Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM bought in India
A Kuwait tourist SIM is a physical card from a local operator;
STC and
Zain, the networks our plan uses, are two of them. We quote no Kuwait SIM card price in dinars because we have not verified current rates. An eSIM for Kuwait from India is installed before you leave home.
A local SIM on arrival needs a free slot; on a single-slot phone it replaces the Indian SIM, and OTPs stop.
Setting up the Kuwait eSIM before you fly
Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land in Kuwait. Do the QR code install on home Wi-Fi: data plan validity starts at the first connection to a Kuwaiti network, not at install. After landing, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line.
iPhone sets the access point name itself; on Android, enter the APN from your order page. See the eSIM phone list and the install guide. Going on to Saudi Arabia? Our Middle East plan covers both, unlimited plans only; see the Saudi Arabia guide.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Kuwait
On a long family stay, OTPs keep coming by SMS to your Indian number, and the Kuwait plan cannot receive SMS. Keep the Indian SIM active as a second line with its data off, and ask your operator whether SMS reaches you in Kuwait.
For incoming SMS without a data pack,
Airtel lists a ₹118 prepaid IR activation for 28 days (it needs an active base pack) and Vi a ₹118 pack with free incoming SMS for 28 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; the OTP guide covers the dual-SIM settings.
Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Kuwait?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Kuwait as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata/isp on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Zain and STC; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹286 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹1,196 (US$12.49). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹2,825 (US$29.49), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Will my Indian SIM work in Kuwait?
A Jio,
Airtel or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. In Kuwait, Vi’s Ultra pack prints its data as FREE.
Do I need to buy a SIM card in Kuwait?
Not for data on a visit. The eSIM installed in India connects to
STC or
Zain when you land. A Kuwaiti card makes sense only if people in Kuwait need to call you on a local number.
When do the days on a Kuwait eSIM start?
At the first connection to a Kuwaiti network, so installing at home costs no days. A Jio pack starts at first usage; an Airtel prepaid pack when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network.
Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Kuwait eSIM?
WhatsApp messages run on the eSIM’s data. OTPs reach your Indian number by SMS, which the Kuwait plan cannot receive, so keep the Indian SIM active. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.
Does Vi give unlimited data in Kuwait?
On prepaid, Vi lists Kuwait in its UL zone, where the ₹3,495 Ultra pack prints 7 days of data as FREE; in Qatar, Oman and Bahrain the same pack carries 2 GB.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Check your exact model on our eSIM phone list before you pay. On Android, type the APN from your order page; iPhone sets it automatically.
