Qatar SIM card for Indian travellers: roaming, local SIM or eSIM
Mobile data in Qatar comes from one of three places: a Jio,
Airtel or Vi roaming pack, a Qatar SIM card bought after landing, or a data eSIM installed in India. Our Qatar eSIM starts at ≈ ₹286 (12 Oct rate) for 1 GB over 7 days, charged US$2.99 by card, and carries no calls or SMS.

Qatar eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need
A few days in Doha call for data, not a Qatari number: maps, ride apps and WhatsApp messages all run on it. An eSIM installed in India connects when you land at Hamad, and your Indian SIM stays in the phone for bank OTPs. A Qatar SIM card is worth it only when someone local has to call you. Our country-by-country SIM guides cover the rest of the Gulf.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack | ₹589 to ₹6,995 a pack from about ₹194 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from ≈ ₹286 US$2.99 by card; from ≈ ₹187 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your Indian number |
Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 12 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.
The Ministry of Tourism counted 1,152,442 departures of Indian nationals to Qatar in 2025, about 1% more than the 1,140,407 of 2024 (our calculation). Leisure and business trips made up 33.35% of the 2025 figure. The MEA counts 830,491 non-resident Indians living in Qatar (January 2026).
Our plan runs on
Vodafone Qatar’s 5G network. That is a Qatari network, not the Indian operator Vi. To find the best eSIM for Qatar, size the GB with our data guide; 5 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹1,244 (12 Oct rate). Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule.
eSIM for Qatar: most chosen plans
Charged US$2.99 by card. Your bank converts the US$ charge at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee — how card payment works.
What it costs per day

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Qatar vs this eSIM
Every pack in this table lists Qatar and adds minutes on your Indian number, which our data-only eSIM does not. The five prepaid packs below cost ₹589 to ₹3,495 as listed on 12 Oct 2026. Two of them last a single day, and Vi’s Ultra pack gives 2 GB here, not FREE data.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
| Pack | Price | Data · days | Calls · SMS | ≈ ₹ per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jio IR Voice & Data (75 countries) | ₹589 | 1 GB · 1 day | 100 min incl. incoming · 20 SMS | about ₹589 |
| Jio IR Voice & Data (100 countries) | ₹951 | 4 GB · 10 days | 100 min out + 100 in · 25 SMS | about ₹238 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 1 day | ₹698 | 1 GB · 1 day | 100 min in + out · 10 SMS | about ₹698 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 5 days | ₹998 | 4 GB · 5 days | 150 min · 20 SMS | about ₹250 |
| Vi prepaid Ultra, 7 days (non-UL zone) | ₹3,495 | 2 GB · 7 days | 200 min | about ₹1,748 |
Source: the operator document (Jio roaming plans · Airtel IR T&C · Vi prepaid IR T&C), checked on 12 Oct 2026. The ≈ ₹ per GB column is our derivation (price ÷ GB). Airtel’s FAQ page still shows ₹898 for the 5-day pack; its T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list ₹998.
Vi lists Qatar in its non-UL zone, so Ultra gives 2 GB for 7 days and the 14-day Ultra ₹5,195 gives 5 GB. Qatar is also in Vi’s Budget Set 1, where ₹1,495 buys 2 GB and 200 minutes over 15 days, about ₹748 per GB (our derivation). Bahrain sits in the same two Vi lists.
Jio’s description of its Gulf Pack says UAE only, while another note on the same page lists six Gulf countries — confirm in the MyJio app before you rely on it outside the UAE. The Jio packs in our table list Qatar without that conflict.

A week in Qatar: roaming pack vs eSIM
5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it.
Operator packs also carry calls and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s ₹ price, as listed on 12 Oct 2026; the eSIM at the market rate of 12 Oct, charged in US$. Work out your own trip.
A short Doha stay: 3-day and 5-day plans vs a one-day roaming pack
A one-day pack suits a single day in Doha. Over three days, three ₹589 Jio packs add up to ₹1,767 and three ₹698
Airtel packs to ₹2,094 (our calculation), while Jio’s ₹951 pack covers 10 days with 4 GB. Our 3-day unlimited data plan costs ≈ ₹1,723 (12 Oct rate) and drops to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day.
For five days, Airtel’s ₹998 pack gives 4 GB and 150 minutes. Our 5-day unlimited data plan costs ≈ ₹2,489 (12 Oct rate), charged US$25.99, plus any markup your card issuer applies, and slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day.
An Airtel prepaid pack starts when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage, so booking it early does not start the clock at home. Without a pack, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad.
Going on to Dubai or Riyadh? Our Middle East plan covers 13 countries, including Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with unlimited plans only: 3 days cost ≈ ₹2,202 (12 Oct rate). See the Middle East eSIM page, the UAE guide and the Saudi Arabia guide.
Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM bought in India
Vodafone Qatar, the network our plan uses, is one of Qatar’s mobile operators, and a Qatar tourist SIM is a physical card bought after you land. We quote no Qatar SIM card price in riyals because we have not verified current rates. An eSIM for Qatar from India is installed at home before the flight.
A local SIM on arrival takes a physical slot. On a single-slot phone you remove the Indian SIM, and OTPs to that number stop.
Setting up the Qatar eSIM before you fly
Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land in Qatar. Do the QR code install on home Wi-Fi: data plan validity starts at the first connection to a Qatari network, so a 3-day plan keeps all three days. Switch on data roaming for the eSIM line once you land.
On Android, type the access point name shown on your order page; iPhone sets it automatically. Check the eSIM phone list first; the install guide shows iPhone and Android screens.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Qatar
A bank OTP is an SMS to your Indian number, and a data-only Qatar plan cannot receive SMS. Keep the Indian SIM switched on as a second line with mobile data off. Ask Jio,
Airtel or Vi before you fly whether SMS reaches you in Qatar on your plan.
No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; the OTP guide covers the dual-SIM settings.
Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Qatar?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Qatar as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Vodafone; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹286 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹1,244 (US$12.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹3,160 (US$32.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Will my Indian SIM work in Qatar?
A Jio,
Airtel or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. Qatar sits in Vi’s non-UL zone, so Vi’s Ultra packs carry 2 to 5 GB there.
Do I need to buy a SIM card in Qatar?
Not for data. The eSIM installed in India connects to
Vodafone Qatar’s network when you land, and your Indian SIM stays in the phone. Buy a Qatari card only if someone in Qatar needs a local number to reach you.
When do the days on a Qatar eSIM start?
At its first connection to a Qatari network, so installing at home on Wi-Fi costs no days. Jio states that validity begins with your first usage; an Airtel prepaid pack starts when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network.
Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Qatar eSIM?
WhatsApp messages use the eSIM’s data. OTPs come by SMS to your Indian number, which the Qatar plan cannot receive, so keep the Indian SIM active as a second line. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.
Is Vodafone Qatar the same as Vi?
No. Vodafone Qatar is the Qatari network our Qatar plan runs on. Vi is the Indian operator whose roaming packs appear in our table. A Vi SIM roams in Qatar under Vi’s pack terms; our eSIM is a separate data-only plan.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Check your exact model on our eSIM phone list before you buy. It must run an eSIM next to a physical SIM, so the Indian SIM can stay in for OTPs while the Qatar plan carries the data.
