Turkey eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need
An Istanbul or Cappadocia trip runs on mobile data: maps, translation apps and WhatsApp messages. A Turkey eSIM installed in India supplies it from landing, and your Indian SIM stays in the phone for OTPs. A Turkish number matters only if a local host or guide has to call you.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack | ₹589 to ₹6,995 a pack from about ₹194 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from ≈ ₹286 US$2.99 by card; from ≈ ₹57 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your Indian number |
Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 12 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.
The Ministry of Tourism counted 86,361 departures of Indian nationals to Türkiye in 2025, down from 143,167 in 2024, about 40% fewer (our calculation). For other destinations, see our country guides for Indian travellers.
Our Turkey plan runs on Türk Telekom’s 5G network and leaves out Northern Cyprus. The Turkey catalogue is wider than most: 15 plans, up to 20 GB over 15 days and 50 GB over 30 days. On the 50 GB plan, data works out at about ₹57 (US$0.60) per GB. The 7-day unlimited data plan costs ≈ ₹1,436 (12 Oct rate) and slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day. Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule.

Charged US$2.99 by card. Your bank converts the US$ charge at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee — how card payment works.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Türkiye vs this eSIM
Türkiye is in Vi’s prepaid UL zone, so Vi’s ₹3,495 Ultra pack prints its data there as FREE. The five prepaid packs below cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 12 Oct 2026, and each adds minutes on your Indian number. Our eSIM has no minutes; its per-GB prices follow the table.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
| Pack | Price | Data · days | Calls · SMS | ≈ ₹ per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jio IR Voice & Data (100 countries), 10 days | ₹951 | 4 GB · 10 days | 100 min out + 100 in · 25 SMS | about ₹238 |
| Jio IR Voice & Data (100 countries), 14 days | ₹1,551 | 8 GB · 14 days | 100 min out + 100 in · 50 SMS | about ₹194 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 5 days | ₹998 | 4 GB · 5 days | 150 min · 20 SMS | about ₹250 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 10 days | ₹1,298 | 6 GB · 10 days | 200 min · 20 SMS | about ₹216 |
| Vi prepaid Ultra, 7 days (UL zone) | ₹3,495 | data printed as FREE · 7 days | unlimited calls | not applicable |

A week split between Istanbul and Cappadocia fits
Airtel’s 10-day ₹1,298 pack, while the 5-day ₹998 pack ends two days early. For two weeks, Jio’s ₹1,551 pack gives 8 GB over 14 days. Jio states: “Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data.”
For two weeks of heavy use, our 15-day 20 GB plan costs ≈ ₹1,340 (12 Oct rate), about ₹67 (US$0.70) per GB, charged US$13.99, plus any markup your card issuer applies. Take a pack instead if you need to call home on your Indian number.

A week in Turkey: roaming pack vs eSIM
1.4× cheaper5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it.
Operator packs also carry calls and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s ₹ price, as listed on 12 Oct 2026; the eSIM at the market rate of 12 Oct, charged in US$. Work out your own trip.
Turkey plan or the Europe plan for a longer route
Choose the Turkey plan for a Türkiye-only trip and the Europe plan when the route continues. The Europe plan lists 41 countries, Türkiye and Georgia among them, so Istanbul with a Tbilisi or Athens leg needs one eSIM. On the same 10 GB over 30 days, the two plans are priced differently.
For 10 GB over 30 days, the Turkey plan costs ≈ ₹957 (12 Oct rate) and the Europe plan ≈ ₹1,819 (12 Oct rate). Before a long stay, read the plan details on each storefront. See the Europe eSIM page, the Europe guide, Europe roaming vs eSIM and the Georgia guide.
Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM bought in India
Türk Telekom, the network our plan uses, is one of Türkiye’s mobile operators, and a Turkey tourist SIM is a physical card bought after landing. We quote no Turkey SIM card price in lira because we have not verified current rates. An eSIM for Turkey from India is installed before you leave.
A local SIM on arrival takes a physical slot, so on a single-slot phone the Indian SIM comes out and OTPs to that number stop.
Setting up the Turkey eSIM before you fly
Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land in Türkiye. Do the QR code install on home Wi-Fi: data plan validity starts at the first connection to a Turkish network, not at install. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line after landing.
iPhone sets the access point name automatically; on Android, type the APN shown on your order page. Check the eSIM phone list and the install guide for both systems.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Turkey
OTPs from Indian banks reach you by SMS on your Indian number, and the Turkey plan cannot receive SMS. Keep the Indian SIM active with its data off, and ask Jio,
Airtel or Vi whether SMS reaches you in Türkiye. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; the OTP guide covers the dual-SIM settings.
Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Turkey?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Turkey as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Turk Telekom (Avea); this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹286 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹670 (US$6.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹1,436 (US$14.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Will my Indian SIM work in Turkey?
A Jio,
Airtel or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. Türkiye is in Vi’s UL zone.
Do I need to buy a SIM card in Turkey?
Not for data. The eSIM installed in India connects to Türk Telekom when you land. A Turkish card is worth it only for a local number, and it needs a free slot in your phone.
When do the days on a Turkey eSIM start?
At the first connection to a Turkish network, so a QR code install at home uses no days. A Jio pack starts at first usage; an Airtel prepaid pack when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network.
Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Turkey eSIM?
WhatsApp messages use the eSIM’s data. OTPs come by SMS to your Indian number, which the Turkey plan cannot receive, so keep the Indian SIM active. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.
Can I use the Europe eSIM in Turkey?
Yes, Türkiye is one of the Europe plan’s 41 countries. For a Türkiye-only trip, compare it with the Turkey plan on the same days and GB, and read both storefronts’ plan details before a long stay.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Check your exact model on our eSIM phone list before you buy. On Android, the Turkey plan needs the access point name typed in from your order page.
