An Iceland trip can run on a Jio, or Vi roaming pack, an Iceland SIM card bought after landing, or a data eSIM installed in India. Our Iceland eSIM starts at ≈ ₹285 (13 Oct rate) for 1 GB over 7 days, charged US$2.99 by card, with no calls and no SMS.

Iceland eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need

Weather alerts, road conditions and offline maps are what an Iceland trip uses data for, and a number on the island matters far less. An eSIM for Iceland installed in India works from the airport and leaves your Indian SIM in the phone for bank OTPs. An Iceland tourist SIM suits you only if someone there must call you, and an Iceland SIM card takes a physical slot. We quote no Iceland SIM card price because we have not verified current local rates, and no plan is the best eSIM for Iceland on every itinerary. Flying on from Reykjavik? The plan has twelve rows: six fixed-data plans, from 1 GB over 7 days to 20 GB over 30 days, and six unlimited data plans, from 3 to 30 days, that slow to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day. Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule. The Iceland page lists an install window of 365 days.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Iceland vs this eSIM

Iceland is on all three operators’ lists, and the six packs in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026. Each adds minutes on your Indian number, which our data-only eSIM lacks. Iceland is outside Vi’s unlimited zone, so Vi’s Ultra pack gives limited data here.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.

We calculated the ≈ ₹ per GB column ourselves, price divided by data. Airtel’s FAQ page still shows older prices; its T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list ₹998 and ₹1,298.

Jio states: “Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data.” ’s prepaid days start when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage; book up to 30 days before travel, as an unused pack expires with no reimbursement if you do not travel within 30 days.

BSNL names Iceland among its seven special-tariff countries, but its Iceland page, read on 14 Oct 2026, shows no plan and no tariff, only the words “launching 4G services soon”, and lists no data allowance. Our BSNL roaming guide covers what BSNL does publish.

Why Vi’s Ultra pack is not unlimited in Iceland

Vi’s Ultra pack gives 2 GB and 200 minutes in Iceland, not FREE data. Iceland is in Vi’s non-unlimited zone, so the ₹3,495 pack costs about ₹1,748 per GB here (our division). Norway, Sweden and Denmark are in the unlimited zone, where the same pack prints data as FREE, so an Iceland leg after a Nordic trip changes the verdict.

Iceland sits in a second Vi list, Budget Set 1, which has its own pack: ₹1,495 for 2 GB and 200 minutes over 15 days. That is a separate reason and a separate pack; do not read one into the other. Vi’s postpaid table puts Iceland in Set 2, not in the unlimited Set 1, though we could not confirm that this country table is current. The Norway guide shows the FREE-data side of the border.

Ring Road and remote areas: what we do and do not promise

Looking for one SIM for all of Iceland? Ours is a country plan on two host networks, Simmin and Nova, both shown as 5G on our Iceland page. We cannot say which one your phone uses at a given spot, and we promise no signal in the interior, on remote Ring Road stretches or on highland tracks. Download offline maps and routes before you leave a town.

Sizing a Ring Road week: at 0.8 GB a day, seven days use 5.6 GB (our calculation), which overshoots the 5 GB row. At prices on 13 Oct 2026, the 10 GB row costs ≈ ₹1,571 (13 Oct rate) and the 7-day unlimited plan ≈ ₹1,238 (13 Oct rate), so the unlimited plan costs less than the 10 GB row for that week. Unlimited slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day. For ten days the 10-day unlimited plan, ≈ ₹1,524 (13 Oct rate), costs about the same as the 10 GB row.

The Europe plan lists Iceland and Norway among its 41 countries. On the 10 GB / 30-day row at prices on 13 Oct 2026, the Europe plan at ≈ ₹1,809 (13 Oct rate) costs about 15% more than the Iceland plan (our calculation), so it makes sense only if the trip continues to another covered country. The Europe SIM card guide, the Europe eSIM page and the Europe roaming comparison compare the options.

Setting up the Iceland eSIM before you fly (manual APN on Android)

On Android, the Iceland plan needs its access point name typed in by hand; iPhone fills it in itself. The value is on your order page and in your order e-mail, and we do not print it here. The APN guide shows where the field sits.

Do the install at home: scan the QR code on Wi-Fi and keep the line off until you fly. Because data plan validity starts at the first connection to an Icelandic network, a QR code install in India uses no days. Once you land, switch data roaming on for the eSIM line, following the data roaming guide. Check your phone on the eSIM phone list, read the install guide, and see the plans on the Iceland eSIM page.

Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Iceland

An Indian bank sends OTPs by SMS to your Indian number, and the Iceland plan has no SMS. Keep the Indian SIM in as a second line with mobile data off, and ask Jio, or Vi whether SMS reaches you in Iceland on your plan. Vi’s ₹118 prepaid pack makes incoming SMS free for 28 days, other use at standard rates (13 Oct 2026); on Jio, check the MyJio app.

No page can promise that every OTP will reach you. The OTP guide has the dual-SIM settings, and how card payments work explains the dollar charge.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Iceland?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Iceland as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata/orange/orange.fr on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Simmin and Nova; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹285 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹857 (US$8.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹1,238 (US$12.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Will my Indian SIM work in Iceland?

It works once international roaming is on, but mobile data needs a roaming pack: without one, bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. All three list Iceland; our table’s six packs cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026.

Is Vi unlimited roaming unlimited in Iceland?

No. Iceland is in Vi’s non-unlimited zone, so the ₹3,495 Ultra pack gives 2 GB and 200 minutes there, while Norway, Sweden and Denmark print FREE data. Vi’s Budget Set 1 also lists Iceland, with a separate ₹1,495 pack for 2 GB.

Does the Iceland eSIM work on the Ring Road?

We promise no signal in any given spot, and the interior and remote stretches are where we are least able to say. The plan connects to Simmin and Nova. Download offline maps before you leave a town.

Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with an Iceland eSIM?

WhatsApp works over the eSIM’s data. Bank OTPs arrive as SMS on your Indian number, which the data-only Iceland plan cannot receive, so keep that SIM on as a second line with data off. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.

Is one eSIM enough for Iceland and Norway?

Not on the Iceland plan, which covers Iceland alone. The Europe plan lists both countries. On Vi, the Ultra pack shows FREE data in Norway but only 2 GB in Iceland, because Iceland sits outside Vi’s unlimited zone.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Look up your exact model on our eSIM phone list before paying. The phone has to run an eSIM and a physical SIM at once, so the Indian SIM can stay in for OTPs while the eSIM handles data.
