South Korea SIM card for Indian travellers: roaming, local SIM or eSIM
You have three ways to get mobile data in South Korea: a Jio,
Airtel or Vi roaming pack on your Indian SIM, a Korean SIM bought after landing, or a travel eSIM installed in India. Our South Korea eSIM is data-only and has no Korean number: 1 GB over 7 days costs ≈ ₹286 (12 Oct rate), charged US$2.99 by card.

South Korea eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need
For most of a Korea trip you need data, not a Korean number. Our plan runs on the SK network and comes without a number of its own: no calls and no SMS. Your Indian SIM stays in the phone for OTPs, and a Korean line earns its place only if someone in Korea must ring you.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack | ₹589 to ₹6,995 a pack from about ₹194 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from ≈ ₹286 US$2.99 by card; from ≈ ₹96 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your Indian number |
Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 12 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.
India’s Ministry of Tourism has no South Korea row on its 2025 departures dashboard. The latest figure is 65,007 departures of Indian nationals in 2024 (India Tourism Data Compendium 2025). Other destinations have their own SIM guides for Indian travellers.
At 0.8 GB a day, the social-media profile in our data guide, seven days use about 5.6 GB (our calculation). That is more than the 5 GB plan holds. For a week, take 10 GB over 30 days at ≈ ₹1,723 (12 Oct rate), or the 7-day unlimited data plan at ≈ ₹2,394 (12 Oct rate), which drops to 1 Mbps after 3 GB in a day. A hotspot or tethering draws on the same allowance; our plan details state no hotspot rule.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in South Korea vs this eSIM
Jio,
Airtel and Vi all sell prepaid packs that work in South Korea. The five in our table cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 12 Oct 2026, and every one of them includes minutes on your Indian number. Vi is the outlier: Korea sits outside its unlimited zone, so ₹3,495 buys only 2 GB.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
| Pack | Price | Data · days | Calls · SMS | ≈ ₹ per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jio IR Voice & Data (100 countries) | ₹951 | 4 GB · 10 days | 100 min out + 100 in · 25 SMS | about ₹238 |
| Jio “East Asia, Europe and US” (100 countries) | ₹2,851 | 12 GB · 30 days | 150 min out + 150 in · 100 SMS | about ₹238 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 5 days | ₹998 | 4 GB · 5 days | 150 min · 20 SMS | about ₹250 |
| Airtel prepaid IR, 10 days | ₹1,298 | 6 GB · 10 days | 200 min · 20 SMS | about ₹216 |
| Vi prepaid Ultra, 7 days | ₹3,495 | 2 GB · 7 days | 200 min | about ₹1,748 |
Source: the operator document (Jio IR plans · Airtel T&C · Vi prepaid T&C), checked on 12 Oct 2026. The ≈ ₹ per GB column is our derivation (price ÷ GB). Airtel’s FAQ page still shows older prices; the current T&C list ₹998 and ₹1,298.
In UL-zone countries such as France or Hong Kong, Vi prints the Ultra pack’s data as FREE. Korea is non-UL, so the same ₹3,495 buys 2 GB, about ₹1,748 per GB. Vi’s Budget pack, ₹1,495 for 15 days with 2 GB and 200 minutes, comes to about ₹748 per GB.
On our side, 10 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹1,723 (12 Oct rate), about ₹172 (US$1.80) per GB, charged US$17.99, plus any markup your card issuer applies. Take a pack instead when you must answer calls on your Indian number in Seoul.
Data plan validity starts at different moments. Jio states: “Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data.” Our eSIM counts from its first connection to a Korean network. Every Jio pack is on our Jio roaming page.

A week in South Korea: roaming pack vs eSIM
5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it.
Operator packs also carry calls and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s ₹ price, as listed on 12 Oct 2026; the eSIM at the market rate of 12 Oct, charged in US$. Work out your own trip.
Seoul with Japan on the same trip: one plan or two
When Seoul and Tokyo share one itinerary, the operator choice narrows. Vi’s Ultra pack gives only 2 to 5 GB in both countries, because Japan and South Korea both sit in its non-UL zone. Jio’s ₹2,851 pack, which Jio itself names “East Asia, Europe and US”, gives 12 GB over 30 days and lists both countries.
Airtel’s single pack set covers both too, but its 10-day pack holds 6 GB for the whole trip.
With us you pick two country plans or one Asia plan. The Asia plan lists 18 places, South Korea and Japan among them: 5 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹861 (12 Oct rate), against ≈ ₹1,053 (12 Oct rate) for 5 GB on the Korea plan alone. The Asia plan has no unlimited option; the Korea plan has six.
Its list also includes India: install it at home and keep the line switched off until you land abroad. See the Asia eSIM and the Japan guide.
Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM bought in India
Searches for an Incheon airport SIM / pocket WiFi lead to two alternatives to an eSIM, both picked up after you land: a physical South Korea SIM card from a local operator, or a router you rent and return. We quote no South Korea SIM card price in won, because we have not verified current rates.
Identity is checked before a local line is issued. A physical Korean SIM also needs a free slot: on a single-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs.
A South Korea tourist SIM makes sense when someone in Korea must call or text you. No plan is the best eSIM for South Korea on every trip: choose by days and data.
Setting up the South Korea eSIM before you fly
Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad. Do it on home Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code you receive after payment. The Korea plan’s days start at its first connection to a Korean network, so a QR code install a week before the flight costs no days.
Check the eSIM phone list before you pay. iPhone sets the network automatically; on Android you type the access point name from your order e-mail. Screens are in the install guide.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
Bank OTPs and your Indian number in South Korea
Your bank’s OTPs come by SMS to your Indian number, and the Korea plan has no SMS at all, so it cannot receive them. Keep the Indian SIM in the phone as a second line with mobile data off. Before you fly, ask Jio,
Airtel or Vi whether SMS reaches you in South Korea on your plan.
For incoming SMS alone, Airtel’s prepaid IR activation (it needs an active base pack) and Vi’s incoming-SMS pack each cost ₹118 for 28 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; see the OTP guide.
Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in South Korea?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats South Korea as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find SK; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹286 (US$2.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹1,053 (US$10.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹2,394 (US$24.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Will my Indian SIM work in South Korea?
A Jio,
Airtel or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack. Without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. In Korea, Vi’s Ultra pack carries 2 to 5 GB, not unlimited data.
Do I need to buy a SIM card in South Korea?
Not for data. The eSIM installed in India connects when you land. Buy a South Korea SIM card only if you need a Korean number.
When do the days on a South Korea eSIM start?
At the first connection to a Korean network. An install at home uses no days, and you have up to a year after purchase to install.
Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a South Korea eSIM?
WhatsApp messages run on the eSIM’s data. Bank OTPs go by SMS to your Indian number, which a data-only eSIM cannot receive, so keep the Indian SIM active as a second line.
Do I get a Korean phone number with the eSIM?
No. The Korea plan comes without a number and carries no calls or SMS. If someone in Korea must call you, buy a local line after landing.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Look up your exact model on our eSIM phone list: a version sold in India can differ from the same model sold abroad.
