Jio, Airtel & Vi roaming in Dubai/UAE vs a travel eSIM
Which Indian SIM works in the UAE? For mobile data, your Jio,
Airtel or Vi SIM needs an international roaming pack; without one, data is barred, switched off or billed at standard rates. On 12 Oct 2026 the Jio international roaming plans for Dubai and the Airtel and Vi packs below cost about ₹216 to ₹898 per GB where data is capped. The UAE drew 8,646,234 departures of Indian nationals in 2025, more than any other country (Ministry of Tourism).
Short answer: when your Indian pack wins in Dubai
Take the pack if you must make or receive calls on your Indian number: all seven packs below include minutes, and our UAE eSIM includes none. Take the eSIM if you mostly need data. Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad. Prices checked on 12 Oct 2026.
Check pack validity before price.
Airtel’s ₹998 pack lasts 5 days, so a week in Dubai needs its ₹1,298 pack, which runs 10 days. Jio’s ₹951 pack also runs 10 days.

Jio’s Gulf pack: what the page says, and what it contradicts
The Jio Dubai pack is Jio’s Gulf pack, in three sizes: ₹898 for 1 GB over 7 days, ₹1,598 for 3 GB over 14 days and ₹2,998 for 7 GB over 21 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026. They carry 100, 150 and 250 minutes each way. Jio’s page disagrees with itself on where else the pack works.
The pack description says “Pack applicable in UAE only” and the plan label reads “Gulf Pack-6 Countries”. Jio’s description of this pack says UAE only, while another note on the same page lists six Gulf countries — confirm in the MyJio app before you rely on it outside the UAE.
Jio’s 100-country pack at ₹951 for 4 GB over 10 days also lists the UAE. It costs ₹53 more than the 1 GB Gulf pack for three extra gigabytes, about ₹18 each (our derivation), so the ₹898 Gulf pack suits only very light use. Jio states that pack benefits apply “only on the preferred partner network in the visited country”.
Airtel and Vi packs for the UAE (table)
Airtel sells one set of packs for every covered country, so there is no Airtel UAE-only pack. For Vi roaming in the UAE, the Ultra (UL) zone, the Budget Set 1 zone and the Haj pack all list it. The seven packs below, Jio’s included, cost ₹898 to ₹3,495 as listed on 12 Oct 2026. The table is a selection.

Source: operator documents linked in each row, checked on 12 Oct 2026. Airtel’s own FAQ page still shows older prices (₹898 for 5 days and ₹1,198 for 10 days); the current T&C list ₹998 and ₹1,298. For trips outside these lengths, Airtel also sells a ₹698 one-day pack with 1 GB and a ₹2,998 30-day pack with 10 GB. Vi’s second Haj pack costs ₹2,388 for 4 GB over 40 days, about ₹597 per GB.
Vi’s annual Budget packs (₹2,997 and ₹4,997) give 25 minutes and no data in the UAE, even though they carry data in other Set 1 countries. Vi’s ₹3,495 Ultra pack has no GB cap; we have no fair-use figure for it. Vi states that IR packs are “not applicable for customers in J&K, Assam and North East”. Some postpaid and annual plans now bundle a few days of roaming — check your plan in the Airtel or Vi app before you travel.
Cost per GB for a 7-day trip
For a 7-day trip, Jio’s ₹951 pack is the cheapest in the table with at least 4 GB for a week: about ₹238 per GB, or ₹136 a day (₹951 ÷ 7).
Airtel needs its ₹1,298 pack, about ₹185 a day for 6 GB, as its ₹998 pack ends after 5 days. Derived from prices listed on 12 Oct 2026.
Jio’s ₹898 Gulf pack fits seven days but carries 1 GB. Airtel’s ₹1,298 pack costs ₹347 more than Jio’s ₹951 for 2 GB more, about ₹174 per extra GB. Vi’s ₹3,495 Ultra pack costs about ₹499 a day.
Our UAE eSIM is data-only. A plan with 1 GB over 7 days costs ≈ ₹334 (12 Oct rate), 2 GB over 15 days costs ≈ ₹670 (12 Oct rate), and 5 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹1,148 (12 Oct rate), about ₹230 (US$2.40) per GB, charged US$11.99 by card. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
The ≈ ₹ figure moves with the exchange rate, so divide a plan’s price by its GB on the day you buy and set it against the table. Our eSIM days count from the first connection to a UAE network, so installing at home uses none of them. The Dubai eSIM from India page lists every plan. A du or
e& tourist SIM and the eSIM are compared in the UAE SIM card guide: local SIM vs eSIM.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
Can I use my Indian SIM in Dubai without a pack?
Not for data on most lines.
Airtel prepaid bars data without a pack “to avoid any accidental usage”, and Vi’s RoamSafe keeps mobile data off. Airtel postpaid with roaming on and no pack bills standard rates until a day’s charges pass ₹698, then applies a ₹698 one-day pack with 1 GB. Terms as checked on 12 Oct 2026.
International roaming in the UAE also costs more once a pack runs out. After an Airtel prepaid pack ends, calls cost ₹10 a minute and SMS ₹5, and data stays blocked. Vi lets you turn data on for 2 days at standard rates by sending ACT IRDATA to 199. We have not verified Jio’s standard rates; check them in the MyJio app.
Each operator starts the clock differently, which matters if you buy before the flight to Dubai. Jio states: “Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data.” On Airtel prepaid, the days begin once your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage. Airtel lets you book up to 30 days ahead, and a pack bought for a trip you do not take within 30 days expires with no reimbursement. Vi allows 180 days ahead in its app and 90 days on its website.
Bank OTPs arrive as SMS on your Indian number, and our eSIM carries data only, so it cannot receive them. To keep your Indian number for OTP use, leave the SIM in as a second line with its data off, and ask your operator whether SMS works abroad on your plan. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.
If OTPs are all you need from the Indian line, a ₹118 prepaid option from Airtel or Vi covers incoming SMS for 28 days. Airtel’s IR service activation “allows unlimited incoming SMS”, bills calls, data and outgoing SMS at standard rates, and needs your regular prepaid plan to stay active. Vi calls its version the “Standard rates + IC SMS pack”, with incoming SMS free. We have not confirmed Jio’s incoming-SMS terms abroad; check the MyJio app. The guide to keeping your Indian number for OTPs explains the dual-SIM settings, and the phone list shows which models take an eSIM.
The third route is a local tourist line, the Dubai airport SIM many travellers ask about. du and
e& (Etisalat) are UAE mobile operators, and both sell tourist SIM or eSIM offers on their own sites. We hold no verified prices for them. A physical tourist SIM takes the slot your Indian SIM may need for OTPs.
How we checked these prices
We read each price in the operator’s own document on 12 Oct 2026 (IST): Jio’s plan list,
Airtel’s T&C PDF dated 24 Sep 2026 and Vi’s prepaid T&C PDF. The ≈ ₹ per GB column divides price by GB and rounds to the nearest rupee. We bought or activated no pack; this page reports published terms.
Coverage comes from each operator’s country list. The UAE appears in Jio’s Gulf pack and in its 100-country, 75-country, 132-country and data-pack lists, in Airtel’s single list, and in Vi’s UL, Budget Set 1 and Haj lists. Vi’s zone page is an image we transcribed by hand, so confirm the UAE there before you buy.
