Mauritius SIM card for Indian travellers: roaming, local SIM or eSIM
In Mauritius, a Jio or
Airtel roaming pack is usually the cheaper route to mobile data, while Vi users get more data per rupee from an eSIM installed in India. A Mauritius SIM card bought on arrival suits those who need a local number. Jio’s ₹951 pack gives 4 GB over 10 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026.

Mauritius eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need
An eSIM for Mauritius installed in India gives you mobile data from the moment you land: 1 GB over 7 days costs ≈ ₹574 (12 Oct rate), charged US$5.99 by card. It runs on Emtel’s 4G network and carries no calls and no SMS.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack | ₹589 to ₹6,995 a pack from about ₹194 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Data is fixed per pack; check that the pack covers Mauritius |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from ≈ ₹574 US$5.99 by card; from ≈ ₹412 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your Indian number |
Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 12 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.
A Mauritius tourist SIM is a physical card that needs a free SIM slot. We have not verified current local offers, so we quote no Mauritius SIM card price in Mauritian rupees. Indian nationals made 84,996 departures to Mauritius in 2025 (Ministry of Tourism). Other island and long-haul trips have their own country SIM guides.
The data plan validity starts at the first connection to a network in Mauritius, so setting the eSIM up at home costs no days. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Mauritius vs this eSIM
Jio lists Mauritius on its 100-country and 75-country packs, the World Pack and the data packs;
Airtel covers it in its single pack set. Vi puts it in the prepaid non-UL zone and Budget Set 2, where data is thin. South Africa sits in the same two Vi lists. The five packs below cost ₹951 to ₹3,495 as listed on 12 Oct 2026.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
| Pack | ₹ | Data | Days | Minutes | ₹ per GB (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jio 100-country pack | ₹951 | 4 GB | 10 | 100 out + 100 in | about ₹238 |
| Airtel prepaid IR | ₹998 | 4 GB | 5 | 150 | about ₹250 |

Our 5 GB row for 30 days costs about ₹498 (US$5.20) per GB, charged US$25.99. On 12 Oct 2026 that was above the Jio and Airtel rows and far below both Vi rows. A Jio or Airtel user on a trip of up to 10 days should take the pack, which also carries minutes on the Indian number. A Vi prepaid user gets more data per rupee from the eSIM. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Vi’s postpaid terms list Mauritius in Set 1, but we could not confirm that this country table is current; see our Vi roaming guide. BSNL shows a special-tariff page for Mauritius that lists no data allowance.

A week in Mauritius: roaming pack vs eSIM
5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it.
Operator packs also carry calls and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s ₹ price, as listed on 12 Oct 2026; the eSIM at the market rate of 12 Oct, charged in US$. Work out your own trip.
A week on the island: which of the six plans
Our Mauritius storefront has six plans: five fixed-data rows from 1 GB for 7 days to 10 GB for 30 days, and one 10-day unlimited data plan that slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day. For a beach week, compare that plan first.
At the data guide’s 0.8 GB a day for social media and photos, a week needs about 5.6 GB (our calculation): more than the 5 GB row holds. The 10 GB row costs ≈ ₹4,118 (12 Oct rate), while the 10-day unlimited plan costs ≈ ₹4,022 (12 Oct rate); on 12 Oct 2026 the unlimited plan was the cheaper of the two. With maps and messaging only (0.3 GB a day), the 3 GB row at ≈ ₹1,484 (12 Oct rate) lasts the week.
Mauritius is also in our Africa plan, but its 1 GB row for 7 days costs ≈ ₹1,148 (12 Oct rate) against ≈ ₹574 (12 Oct rate), so keep it for a route through several African countries. Both plans need the APN entered by hand on Android; the APN guide shows where.
Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM set up in India
A local SIM on arrival gives you a Mauritian number. On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM, so OTPs to that number stop until you swap back. An eSIM set up in India needs no slot and is ready when you land.
Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad. The QR code install happens in your phone’s SIM settings on home Wi-Fi. Check your model on the eSIM phone list before you pay.
Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Mauritius
OTPs from your bank go to your Indian number by SMS. The Mauritius eSIM is a data line with no number. Keep the Indian SIM active in the second slot with its data off, and ask your operator before the trip whether SMS works for you in Mauritius.
No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; the OTP guide covers dual-SIM settings.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Mauritius?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Mauritius as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add e-ideas on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Emtel; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹574 (US$5.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹2,489 (US$25.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 10 days, ≈ ₹4,022 (US$41.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Will my Indian SIM work in Mauritius?
A Jio,
Airtel or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off.
Do I need to buy a SIM card in Mauritius?
Only if you need a Mauritian number. For data, a roaming pack or an eSIM installed in India works from landing, and both leave your Indian SIM in the phone.
When do the days on a Mauritius eSIM start?
When the eSIM first connects to a network in Mauritius. Installing it in India before the flight uses none of the plan’s days.
Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Mauritius eSIM?
WhatsApp messages travel over the eSIM’s data. Bank OTPs come by SMS to your Indian number, which the data-only eSIM cannot receive, so keep that SIM active as well.
Is there an unlimited eSIM for Mauritius?
Yes, one: a 10-day plan that slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day. The other five plans carry fixed data, from 1 GB to 10 GB.
Does my phone support eSIM?
Look up the exact model on our eSIM phone list; Indian and foreign versions of a phone can differ.
