Jio, Airtel & Vi roaming in Australia vs a travel eSIM
Jio international roaming plans for Australia include one whose name hides it: the “US Mexico and Canada” pack lists Australia in its own text. There is no Jio Australia pack by that name. On 13 Oct 2026 the eleven packs in our two tables come to about ₹86 to ₹748 per GB where data is capped, all with minutes on your Indian number.
Short answer: which Indian packs cover Australia
For a fortnight, Jio’s ₹1,555 pack gives 12 GB over 15 days, about ₹130 per GB.
Airtel’s prepaid packs include ₹998 for 4 GB over 5 days and ₹2,998 for 10 GB over 30 days. Australia is in Vi’s UL zone, so Vi prints the data on its Ultra packs as FREE there. Prices as listed on 13 Oct 2026.
For a long stay, Jio’s 30- and 35-day packs come to about ₹86 to ₹102 per GB, the lowest in our pack tables, calls included. An Australia eSIM from India suits a trip about data rather than calls: ours carries data only.
India’s Ministry of Tourism counts 674,798 departures to Australia in 2025, up from 661,405 in 2024, about 2% (our calculation); 69.2% were leisure or business trips. The PIE News, retelling a Ministry of External Affairs answer, puts 196,108 Indian students in Australia on 1 January 2025; see the student eSIM page.

Jio’s USA, Mexico and Canada pack also covers Australia
The pack text on Jio’s plan list reads: “Pack applicable in USA, Mexico, U.S.Virgin Islands, Canada, Puerto Rico & Australia only.” New Zealand is not on it. Jio prepaid and postpaid users get the same packs, and the 100-country pack also lists Australia. The five rows below cost ₹951 to ₹3,455.

Airtel and Vi packs for Australia (table)
Airtel has one prepaid set for every country it covers, so the Airtel IR pack Australia travellers buy is the same ₹998, ₹1,298 or ₹2,998 pack sold for anywhere else. Vi roaming in Australia follows two prepaid zones: UL for iRoamFree and Ultra packs, Budget Set 1 for Budget packs. The six rows cost ₹998 to ₹6,995.
| Airtel and Vi pack | Price | Data · days | Minutes · SMS | ≈ ₹ per GB | Source, checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Airtel prepaid IR pack | ₹998 | 4 GB · 5 days | 150 min · 20 SMS out | about ₹250 | Airtel T&C, 13 Oct 2026 |
| Airtel prepaid IR pack | ₹1,298 | 6 GB · 10 days | 200 min · 20 SMS out | about ₹216 | Airtel T&C, 13 Oct 2026 |
| Airtel prepaid IR pack | ₹2,998 | 10 GB · 30 days | 300 min · 20 SMS out | about ₹300 | Airtel T&C, 13 Oct 2026 |
| Vi Budget pack (Set 1 zone) | ₹1,495 | 2 GB · 15 days | 200 min | about ₹748 | Vi prepaid T&C, 13 Oct 2026 |
| Vi iRoamFree (UL zone) | ₹6,995 | 15 GB · 28 days | 120 min a day | about ₹466 | Vi prepaid T&C, 13 Oct 2026 |
| Vi Ultra pack (UL zone) | ₹3,495 | data printed as FREE · 7 days | calls included, per Vi | no GB figure to divide by | Vi prepaid T&C, 13 Oct 2026 |
Older prices (₹898 and ₹1,198) still sit on Airtel’s FAQ page; the T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list ₹998 and ₹1,298. Vi’s IR packs are “not applicable for customers in J&K, Assam and North East”, per its prepaid T&C. Vi’s postpaid table lists Australia in Set 1; we could not confirm that this country table is current.
BSNL’s roaming site carries this notice: “BSNL services in Australia and Sweden are impacted by the 2G/3G sunset.”
Australia and New Zealand on one trip
The Jio US pack stops at Australia; it does not list New Zealand. Jio’s 100-country pack lists both, so the ₹951 and ₹1,551 rows cover a two-country route on one recharge.
Airtel’s single set and Vi’s UL zone also list both countries.
On our side, the Oceania plan lists Australia and New Zealand in one plan, with fixed-GB rows only. The Australia storefront alone also sells six unlimited plans, which slow to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day. See the Oceania eSIM page and the New Zealand SIM card guide.
Cost per GB for a 10-day and a 30-day trip
The rule we use: for each operator, the shortest pack that lasts the whole trip, ranked by price per GB, with Vi’s FREE-data rows left out. All ₹ per GB values are our division of price by data, from prices listed on 13 Oct 2026.
Ten days:
Airtel’s ₹1,298 pack is lowest at about ₹216 per GB, ₹130 a day. Jio’s 10-day ₹951 pack follows at about ₹238 per GB, ₹95 a day. Vi’s 10-day Budget pack (₹995, 1.25 GB in Set 1) comes to about ₹796 per GB. Jio’s ₹1,555 pack, at about ₹130 per GB, runs five days past the trip.
Thirty days: Jio’s ₹2,555 pack is lowest at about ₹102 per GB, ₹85 a day. Airtel’s ₹2,998 prepaid pack comes to about ₹300 per GB, ₹100 a day, and Vi’s 30-day ₹2,998 Budget pack (5 GB in Set 1) to about ₹600 per GB.
In our catalogue on 12 Oct 2026, every Australia plan runs on
Optus and is data only. 1 GB over 7 days costs ≈ ₹286 (12 Oct rate). For a 30-day trip, the nearest-data pairs for the packs above are 10 GB for ≈ ₹1,388 (12 Oct rate), about ₹139 (US$1.45) per GB, and 20 GB for ≈ ₹2,106 (12 Oct rate), about ₹105 (US$1.10) per GB, charged US$21.99 by card. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
A plan’s days begin when it first connects to a network in Australia. The Australia eSIM page lists every plan; the Australia SIM card guide covers buying a local SIM after landing, a physical card from a local operator that needs a free slot.
To keep your Indian number for OTP messages, leave the Indian SIM in as the second line with mobile data off: bank OTPs come by SMS, and our data-only eSIM cannot receive them. Ask your operator whether SMS reaches you in Australia; nobody can promise every OTP will arrive. More in the OTP guide.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
How we checked these prices
Each row shows its checked on date. We used the operators’ own documents: Jio’s plan list and country PDFs,
Airtel’s T&C PDF dated 24 Sep 2026, Vi’s prepaid T&C PDF and BSNL’s roaming site. ₹ per GB is price divided by GB.
These Jio international roaming plans for Australia come from Jio’s own list, not launch news. For international roaming Australia appears on Jio’s US Mexico and Canada, 100-country, 75-country, World Pack and data-pack lists, on Airtel’s single list, and on Vi’s UL and Budget Set 1 lists. Vi’s country table is an image we typed out by hand; check Australia in the Vi app.

FAQ
Will my Jio, Airtel or Vi SIM work in Australia?
Yes. On which Indian SIM works in Australia, the answer is all three, once international roaming is on. For mobile data you still need a pack: without one,
Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps data off. Jio covers Australia in several pack families, including its US, Mexico and Canada pack.
How much is the Airtel IR pack for Australia?
Airtel prices Australia like every other country it covers. Its T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list prepaid ₹998 for 4 GB over 5 days, ₹1,298 for 6 GB over 10 days and ₹2,998 for 10 GB over 30 days, plus a ₹698 one-day pack.
Which Jio international roaming plan covers Australia?
The US, Mexico and Canada pack, whose text adds Australia: ₹1,555 for 12 GB over 15 days, ₹2,555 for 25 GB over 30 days, ₹3,455 for 40 GB over 35 days. The 100-country pack also lists Australia, and New Zealand too (13 Oct 2026).
Is a travel eSIM cheaper than roaming in Australia?
It depends on the trip length. Jio’s 30- and 35-day packs come to about ₹86 to ₹102 per GB, the lowest per-GB figures in our pack tables, calls included. Our Australia plans are data-only and charged in US dollars, so compare the ≈ ₹ per GB of the plan you would buy with the pack for the same days.
Can I get bank OTPs on my Indian number in Australia while using an eSIM?
Possibly, but no one can promise it. OTPs go by SMS to the Indian number, which our data-only eSIM does not carry. Keep the Indian SIM switched on beside the eSIM, with its mobile data off, and confirm with your operator that SMS works in Australia.
