International SIM card for multi-country trips from India: roaming or a global eSIM
A global international SIM card from India makes sense only when a trip crosses three or more regions, and an eSIM is the version you can install before you fly. Our global eSIM works as a prepaid international SIM with data only: 5 GB for 30 days costs ≈ ₹2,681 (12 Oct rate), charged US$27.99 by card. For one country or one region, a country plan or a regional plan is the simpler fit.

Who needs a global plan and who does not
A global, multi-country plan fits a trip that touches three or more regions, for example Dubai, London and Singapore on one ticket, or stops you cannot fix in advance. Two stops in one region do not need it, and for a single country our destination guides are the better start. This global international SIM card is data-only, so it has no calls and no SMS.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack | Depends on the operator’s pack | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Data is fixed per pack; check that the pack covers the whole world |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your Indian SIM and its OTPs |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from ≈ ₹192 US$1.99 by card; from ≈ ₹319 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your Indian number |
Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 12 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.
Our rule of thumb: one country, use that country’s page, such as Thailand. One region, use the regional page for Asia or Europe. Three or more regions, or stops you cannot fix in advance, use the global plan. We do not claim a global plan is cheaper; compare the totals on each page.
eSIM for the whole world: most chosen plans
Charged US$1.99 by card. Your bank converts the US$ charge at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee — how card payment works.
What it costs per day
Price ÷ days, at the market rate of 9 Oct. A longer plan usually costs less per day: pick by your trip length, not by the lowest daily price.
Global plan vs a regional plan vs one country
A country plan covers one country, a regional plan covers one region, and a global international SIM card or eSIM covers many regions under one validity. Plans differ in GB and days, so compare the total for your trip, not the headline. A week of light use fits 1 GB for 7 days at ≈ ₹813 (12 Oct rate), charged US$8.49 by card.
The global range runs from 300 MB for 3 days to 20 GB for 365 days. A 15-day trip with light use fits 2 GB for 15 days at ≈ ₹1,436 (12 Oct rate). A 30-day trip with heavy maps and video-call use fits 10 GB for 30 days at ≈ ₹4,596 (12 Oct rate), about ₹460 (US$4.80) per GB. For a longer stay, 10 GB lasts 180 days.
Every plan in our global range has a fixed GB allowance, so size it to your trip. Weigh the international SIM card price in India against an operator pack by GB and days, not by the headline figure. The ≈ ₹ price is an estimate at the day’s rate. The charge itself is in US dollars, so your bank may add a conversion markup.
The countries each plan covers are listed on the global eSIM page. Check every stop on your itinerary against that list before you pay, including stops that are only a connection.
Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Cruises, layovers and multi-stop trips
A layover in a listed country draws on the same plan, with no extra purchase. We make no promise for cruises: we have not verified service on board a ship, so plan for data on port days only. Validity starts at the first network connection, not at installation.
Keep the eSIM line switched off until you land abroad, so the days do not start early. A global international SIM card or eSIM works only where it lists coverage. Check each layover country against the country list on the global eSIM page. A stop outside the list gets no data from this plan. A ship’s own onboard connection is a separate service.
Flights are a similar gap.
Airtel’s ₹2,998 prepaid pack lists an in-flight allowance of 250 MB, 100 minutes and 100 SMS, and Jio’s ₹2,899 World Pack includes an in-flight pass (both as listed on 12 Oct 2026). Our eSIM makes no in-flight promise.
Your Jio Global Pack balance vs a data eSIM
Jio’s Global Pack is a prepaid balance, not a data pack. It costs ₹1,101 or ₹1,102 for 28 days and loads ₹933.05 or ₹933.90 of credit plus 5 ISD SMS, spent at standard roaming rates (Jio plan list, 12 Oct 2026). It sets no GB allowance.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
| Pack | Price | Data | Days | ≈ ₹ per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jio Global Pack (balance) | ₹1,101 | none, ₹933.05 balance | 28 | not applicable |
| Jio IR World Pack (132 countries) | ₹1,499 | 2 GB | 14 | about ₹750 |
| Jio IR World Pack (132 countries) | ₹2,899 | 5 GB | 30 | about ₹580 |
| Airtel prepaid IR | ₹998 | 4 GB | 5 | about ₹250 |
| Airtel prepaid IR | ₹1,298 | 6 GB | 10 | about ₹216 |
Source: operator documents (Jio IR plans · Airtel T&C), checked on 12 Oct 2026. The ≈ ₹ per GB column is our derivation (price ÷ GB). Airtel’s T&C are dated 24 Sep 2026. These five rows are a selection, not every pack.
Airtel’s page advertises “Single pack for 189 countries”, one set of packs for every covered country. Jio’s World Pack covers 132 countries. These are the operator alternatives to a global SIM card on a multi-country trip. They include calls on your Indian number. Our eSIM does not. On our global plan, 5 GB for 30 days costs ≈ ₹2,681 (12 Oct rate), or about ₹536 (US$5.60) per GB. The pack wins when you need calls on your Indian number.
OTPs on a multi-country trip: one Indian SIM for every stop
Bank OTPs go to your Indian number, and our global eSIM carries data only, so it cannot receive them. Your Indian SIM roams with you through every country on the trip, so keep it in the phone as a second line with its data off. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.
Airtel prepaid (with your regular plan active) and Vi prepaid list a ₹118 option that keeps incoming SMS free for 28 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026. Jio’s Global Pack comes with 5 ISD SMS beside its balance; for incoming SMS on Jio, check the MyJio app. The guide to keeping your Indian SIM for OTPs explains the dual-SIM settings.
Set up in India, switch the line on at your first stop
Days on our global plan start at the first network connection, not at installation. Install the eSIM in India and keep its line switched off until you land at your first stop. On a Dubai, London and Singapore ticket, that stop is Dubai; the same plan then serves each stop on the country list.
Step-by-step screens for iPhone and Android are in the install guide; check your model on the phone list first. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land worldwide?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats the whole world as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add wbdata on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find a partner network; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹821 (US$8.49). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹2,707 (US$27.99).
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Which international SIM card is best in India?
The right choice depends on the trip. For an international SIM card from India, a roaming pack from Jio,
Airtel or Vi keeps your Indian number, and most packs include minutes. A travel eSIM gives data only, installed before you fly. One country needs a country plan, one region a regional plan, and three or more regions a global plan.
Is there a global eSIM that works in many countries?
Yes. Our global eSIM is a data-only plan with one validity across many countries, and the country list is on the global eSIM page. It carries no calls and no SMS. Check each stop on your itinerary against the list before you pay.
Do international SIM cards include calls or only data?
Ours is data-only, with no calls and no SMS. Operator packs differ: Airtel’s ₹998 prepaid pack includes 150 minutes and 20 SMS, as listed on 12 Oct 2026. Calls over WhatsApp use the eSIM’s data allowance.
Can I buy an international eSIM online from India and pay by card?
Yes. You pay by card, for example Visa or Mastercard among others. The charge is in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction fee. A new or reissued Indian card may need online and international use switched on first; the payment guide explains how.
Is there a global eSIM that does not expire?
No. Every global plan has a fixed validity, from 3 days up to 365 days. Validity starts at the first network connection, not at installation, so keep the eSIM line switched off until you land abroad.
