A data-only eSIM for Brazil installed in India starts at ≈ ₹382 (12 Oct rate) for 1 GB over 7 days, charged US$3.99 by card.

Brazil eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need

India’s Ministry of Tourism counted 18,103 departures of Indian nationals to Brazil in 2025. Maps, ride apps and chats there run on mobile data; a Brazil tourist SIM with a local number matters only if people in Brazil must call you. A data eSIM set up in India is simpler, and your Indian SIM stays in for OTPs. Other countries are in our international SIM guides.

Our Brazil plans run on TIM, the Brazilian network, on 5G, with data only and no calls or SMS. There are six fixed-data plans, 1 GB for 7 days up to 20 GB for 30 days, and six unlimited data plans of 3 to 30 days. The 7-day unlimited plan costs ≈ ₹2,394 (12 Oct rate), charged US$24.99; after 3 GB in a day its speed falls to 1 Mbps. Hotspot / tethering use draws on the same data allowance; our plan details do not state a hotspot rule. Our catalogue has no coverage map for Brazil’s regions, so check a remote itinerary with us first.

Airtel and Vi packs in Brazil, and why Jio has none

Brazil appears on no Jio list with data: not the 100-country or 75-country packs, not the World Pack, not the data packs. ’s single country list and two of Vi’s prepaid lists do name it. The five rows below run from ₹998 to ₹3,495 as listed on 13 Oct 2026, Jio’s balance included.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.

Each row links the operator’s own document, read on 13 Oct 2026. The ≈ ₹ per GB column is our division of price by data. Jio also sells a ₹1,102 variant of the Global Pack with a ₹933.90 balance. Airtel’s current T&C carry the date 24 Sep 2026, while its FAQ page still lists older prices; one pack set serves every covered country, the cheapest being ₹698 for 1 GB over a day.

Vi is the opposite of Jio here. Brazil sits in Vi’s prepaid UL zone, where the ₹3,495 Ultra pack prints its data as FREE, and also in Budget Set 1, which gives 2 GB for ₹1,495; these are separate lists. Vi’s postpaid terms place Brazil in unlimited Set 1, and we could not confirm that this country table is current. Vi’s FREE label and our unlimited plan differ: ours slows to 1 Mbps after 3 GB a day and has no calls.

A Jio user therefore chooses between the balance at standard rates and an eSIM. Our 5 GB plan for 30 days costs ≈ ₹957 (12 Oct rate), about ₹192 (US$2.00) per GB, charged US$9.99, plus any markup your card issuer applies. On 12 Oct 2026 that was about the same as Airtel’s ₹998 for 4 GB over 5 days, with more data and longer validity. Airtel wins when you need its 150 minutes on your Indian number.

Airtel lets you book a prepaid pack up to 30 days before travel; if you do not travel within 30 days, the pack expires with no reimbursement. Its validity starts when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage. Our plan’s data plan validity counts from its first connection to a Brazilian network, so a stopover on the long flight does not start it. Operator detail: Airtel roaming page, Vi roaming page.

Brazil plan or the Latin America plan for Brazil plus Argentina or Peru

Stay with the Brazil plan if you never leave Brazil. If the route crosses into Argentina or Peru, the Latin America plan lists 17 countries, those three among them, so a single eSIM handles every border. For Brazil alone the regional plan costs more on the same row.

On 12 Oct 2026 the 10 GB, 30-day row was ≈ ₹1,771 (12 Oct rate) on the Brazil plan, charged US$18.49, and ≈ ₹3,256 (12 Oct rate) on the Latin America plan, charged US$33.99. Both plans need the access point name typed in by hand on Android.

Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM bought in India

Pick a local SIM on arrival if a long stay needs Brazilian calls. A physical Brazil SIM card from a local operator needs a free slot, so on a single-slot phone your Indian SIM comes out and its OTPs wait until it goes back in. We print no Brazil SIM card price in reais: we have not verified one.

Setting up the Brazil eSIM before you fly (manual APN on Android)

Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land in Brazil. Confirm your phone on the eSIM phone list, buy from the Brazil eSIM page, and complete the QR code install over home Wi-Fi. Once you land, switch on data roaming for that line.

An iPhone picks up the access point name by itself. On Android you type it in: the value is on the order page and in the e-mail, and the APN guide shows the screen it goes on. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Brazil

OTPs from your bank travel as SMS to your Indian number, and a data-only Brazil eSIM has no SMS to receive them on. Run the Indian SIM as a second line with its data switched off, and check with your operator that SMS reaches you in Brazil on your plan. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.

For incoming SMS on its own, ’s ₹118 prepaid IR activation runs 28 days at standard rates and “allows unlimited incoming SMS”, with an active base pack required. Vi’s ₹118 standard-rates pack frees incoming SMS for 28 days. Jio users can look in the MyJio app. The OTP guide walks through the dual-SIM settings.

Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Brazil?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Brazil as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add internet on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find TIM; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹380 (US$3.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹952 (US$9.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹2,381 (US$24.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Will my Jio SIM work in Brazil?

It works once international roaming is on, but Jio sells no data pack for Brazil. Only the Global Pack balance, ₹1,101 spent at standard roaming rates (13 Oct 2026), lists Brazil.

Does Airtel international roaming cover Brazil?

Yes. advertises 189 countries on one pack set, Brazil among them. The prepaid ₹998 pack gives 4 GB and 150 minutes over 5 days (13 Oct 2026). With no pack, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad.

When do the days on a Brazil eSIM start?

When the eSIM first connects to a network in Brazil. A stopover on the way or an install at home does not start them.

Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Brazil eSIM?

WhatsApp chats work on the eSIM’s data. OTPs come by SMS to your Indian number, which the eSIM cannot receive, so keep the Indian SIM switched on in the phone.

Is one eSIM enough for Brazil and Argentina?

Yes, the Latin America plan lists Brazil, Argentina and Peru. The Brazil plan alone does not cover Argentina, and on the same row it costs less than the regional plan.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Check the exact model on our eSIM phone list; Indian versions can differ from imports. The phone’s SIM settings should also offer to add an eSIM.
