Cambodia SIM card for Indian travellers: roaming, local SIM or eSIM

Cambodia is where Jio and Vi users lose value: Jio covers it only with its World Pack and data packs, and Vi gives less data than in Vietnam or Thailand. ’s ₹998 prepaid pack gives 4 GB over 5 days, as listed on 12 Oct 2026. The other routes: a Cambodia SIM card after landing or a data eSIM from India.

Cambodia eSIM or local SIM: what Indian travellers need

An eSIM for Cambodia installed in India gives you data on landing: 1 GB over 7 days costs ≈ ₹382 (12 Oct rate), charged US$3.99 by card. It runs on Smart’s 4G network and carries no calls and no SMS. Of its twelve plans, six are unlimited data.

Pack prices as listed by Jio, Airtel and Vi on 12 Oct 2026; ₹ per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are an estimate at the day’s rate; your card is charged in US$.

The unlimited plans last 3 to 30 days, and each slows to 1 Mbps once you pass 3 GB in a day. Buying a Cambodia tourist SIM means a physical card and a free slot in your phone. We have not checked current local offers, so we give no Cambodia SIM card price.

The data plan validity counts from its first connection to a Cambodian network, so installing in India uses none of it. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

Your Jio, Airtel or Vi pack in Cambodia vs this eSIM

Of Jio’s lists, only the World Pack and the data packs include Cambodia; the 100-country and 75-country packs leave it out. ’s single pack set covers it, while Vi places it in the prepaid non-UL zone and Budget Set 2. The five packs below cost ₹599 to ₹1,499 as listed on 12 Oct 2026.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.

The value drops at the border for Jio and Vi users. Vietnam and Thailand are on Jio’s 100-country pack (₹951 for 4 GB over 10 days) and in Vi’s UL zone, where the ₹3,495 Ultra pack has unlimited calls and data Vi prints as FREE. In Cambodia the same Ultra pack gives 2 GB, and Vi’s ₹1,495 Budget pack gives 750 MB and 100 minutes instead of 2 GB and 200 minutes. Airtel’s packs are the same in all three countries.

Our 5 GB row for 30 days works out at about ₹249 (US$2.60) per GB, charged US$12.99. On 12 Oct 2026 that was about the same as Airtel’s ₹998 row, above its ₹1,298 row and well below both Jio rows. Airtel suits a trip of up to 10 days with calls on your Indian number. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.

Cambodia with Vietnam or Thailand: one Asia plan

Our Asia plan lists Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand among its 18 countries. On 12 Oct 2026 it cost less than the Cambodia plan at every fixed size from 2 GB up: 5 GB for 30 days was ≈ ₹861 (12 Oct rate) against ≈ ₹1,244 (12 Oct rate). Only the 1 GB row for 7 days was cheaper on the Cambodia plan.

On 12 Oct 2026, at about ₹172 (US$1.80) per GB, that Asia row was also below every pack in the table. The trade-offs: the Asia plan has no unlimited rows, Android needs its APN entered by hand while the Cambodia plan sets it automatically (APN guide), and its list includes India, so keep the line switched off until you land abroad. See the Vietnam guide, the Thailand guide and the Asia eSIM page.

Local SIM after landing vs an eSIM set up in India

A local SIM on arrival gives you a Cambodian number, and on a phone with one slot you lose your Indian line while it is in. The eSIM sits alongside the Indian SIM instead, so your Indian number stays in the phone. For the next stop, see our guides to other Asian and long-haul destinations.

At 0.8 GB a day for social media and photos (from the data guide), seven days add up to about 5.6 GB (our calculation). The 10 GB row for 30 days, at ≈ ₹2,010 (12 Oct rate), covers that.

Bank OTPs and your Indian number in Cambodia

SMS codes from your bank go to the Indian number, and the Cambodia eSIM has no number to receive them. Leave the Indian SIM in the second slot, turn its mobile data off, and ask Jio, or Vi whether SMS reaches you in Cambodia on your plan.

No page controls whether every OTP arrives; the OTP guide explains the dual-SIM settings, and our Vi roaming guide sets out Vi’s zones.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Cambodia?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Mobile Service > Mobile Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your Indian line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Cambodia as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Smart; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.in with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, ≈ ₹382 (US$3.99). For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, ≈ ₹1,244 (US$12.99). If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, ≈ ₹2,585 (US$26.99), with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your Indian number every day, a Jio, Airtel or Vi roaming pack carries them (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Will my Indian SIM work in Cambodia?

A Jio, or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off.

Do I need to buy a SIM card in Cambodia?

Not for data: a roaming pack or an eSIM from India works from landing. Buy a local card only for a Cambodian number.

When do the days on a Cambodia eSIM start?

From the first time it connects to a Cambodian network, not from installation, so setting it up in India costs no days.

Can I get OTPs and use WhatsApp with a Cambodia eSIM?

WhatsApp messages travel over the eSIM’s data. Bank OTPs are SMS to your Indian number, which the data-only eSIM cannot take, so keep the Indian SIM on.

Can I use one eSIM for Vietnam and Cambodia?

Yes: our Asia plan lists both, along with Thailand. On 12 Oct 2026 it cost less than the Cambodia plan from 2 GB up, but it has no unlimited rows.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Our eSIM phone list shows supported models by brand.
