Jio, Airtel & Vi roaming in Canada vs a travel eSIM
Jio international roaming plans for Canada start with a pack named after three countries, not a Jio Canada pack as such: Jio’s “US Mexico and Canada” pack, whose 35-day version works out to about ₹86 per GB.
Airtel covers Canada with its all-country set, and Vi with packs that cap data there. On 13 Oct 2026 the thirteen packs in our two tables cost about ₹86 to ₹1,039 per GB, and twelve include minutes on your Indian number.
Short answer: which Indian packs cover Canada
Which Indian SIM works in Canada? Jio,
Airtel and Vi all do once roaming is on; the pack sets the data. Jio’s ₹1,555 pack covers Canada for 15 days with 12 GB, about ₹130 per GB, and the same pack works in the USA. Airtel’s prepaid packs run from ₹998 for 4 GB over 5 days to ₹2,998 for 10 GB over 30 days. Vi’s prepaid Ultra gives only 2 to 5 GB in Canada. Prices as listed on 13 Oct 2026.
A pack keeps calls on your Indian number. A Canada eSIM from India carries data only, with no calls and no SMS, which suits a visit spent on maps, transit apps and video calls home. Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad.
India’s Ministry of Tourism counts 786,990 departures to Canada in 2025, down from 945,652 in 2024, about 17% fewer (our calculation); 57.68% of the 2025 departures were for leisure or business. India’s Ministry of External Affairs lists 1,388,300 non-resident Indians in Canada as of January 2026.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice.
Jio’s USA, Mexico and Canada pack and the 100-country pack
Jio names Canada in the pack text itself: “Pack applicable in USA, Mexico, U.S.Virgin Islands, Canada, Puerto Rico & Australia only.” It comes in 15, 30 and 35-day versions, all with free incoming calls. Other Jio international roaming plans for Canada sit on broader lists, so the six rows below cost ₹599 to ₹3,455 as listed on 13 Oct 2026.

Vi reserves unlimited Ultra data for its “UL” zone of 40 countries. Canada is outside it, so the 7-day ₹3,495 Ultra pack gives 2 GB there, while the USA sits in the UL zone, where Vi prints data as FREE. Vi’s postpaid table lists Canada in Set 2, and we could not confirm that this country table is current. Vi states that its IR packs are “not applicable for customers in J&K, Assam and North East”.
Airtel’s ₹3,999 postpaid pack appears in both circle lists, Maharashtra and the rest of India; see Airtel postpaid packs. Airtel’s FAQ page still shows ₹898 and ₹1,198, though the T&C dated 24 Sep 2026 list ₹998 and ₹1,298. BSNL’s roaming site shows a special tariff for Canada but no price we can quote.
Long stays: 30-day and 35-day packs vs our 30-day plans and the 90-day limit
Jio’s ₹3,455 pack is the only row in our tables that runs past 30 days: 40 GB for 35 days, about ₹86 per GB. For a month, Jio’s ₹2,555 pack comes to about ₹102 per GB,
Airtel’s prepaid ₹2,998 to about ₹300, and Airtel’s postpaid ₹3,999 to about ₹133 per high-speed GB.
To rank packs for a trip, we take each operator’s shortest pack that lasts the whole stay and compare cost per GB, leaving Vi’s FREE-data rows out (Vi prepaid has none for Canada). Every figure divides price by data, from prices listed on 13 Oct 2026.
Fifteen days: Jio’s ₹1,555 pack leads at about ₹130 per GB, ₹104 a day. Airtel prepaid has nothing between 10 and 30 days, so its ₹2,998 pack is the shortest that lasts, about ₹300 per GB. Vi’s 15-day Budget pack is about ₹748. Thirty days: Jio’s ₹2,555 pack again leads at about ₹102 per GB, ₹85 a day; Airtel follows at about ₹300 prepaid or ₹133 postpaid, and Vi’s Budget ₹2,998 at about ₹600.
Our Canada plans run on
Bell LTE and carry data only. Fixed-GB plans run from 1 GB over 3 days to 50 GB over 30 days. In our catalogue on 12 Oct 2026, one Canada eSIM can stay on the network for 90 days at most, and after that you need a new one. The longest plan lasts 30 days, so no single plan covers a long visit.
Our 10 GB plan for 30 days costs ≈ ₹2,298 (12 Oct rate), about ₹230 (US$2.40) per GB. The 20 GB plan costs ≈ ₹3,639 (12 Oct rate), about ₹182 (US$1.90) per GB, and the 50 GB plan ≈ ₹8,523 (12 Oct rate), about ₹170 (US$1.78) per GB, charged US$88.99 by card. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Hold each plan against the pack nearest in data: 10 GB against Airtel’s ₹2,998, 20 GB against Jio’s ₹2,555 (25 GB), 50 GB against Jio’s ₹3,455 (40 GB). Use the rupee figure shown on the day you buy, because it follows the exchange rate.
Parents visiting family in Canada: which line does what
A visit of three months or more outlasts every monthly plan, ours included. One of our eSIMs stays on the network for 90 days at most, so a longer stay needs a second eSIM, a local line, or a long operator pack. If you expect one eSIM to last past day 90, you lose service then at the latest, whatever data is left.
Long operator packs that list Canada, as listed on 13 Oct 2026:
Airtel postpaid ₹5,999 for 90 days: 40 GB at high speed and 900 minutes, about ₹150 per high-speed GB.- Airtel postpaid ₹14,999 for 365 days: 40 GB at high speed and 3,000 minutes, about ₹375 per high-speed GB.
- Airtel prepaid ₹4,999 for 365 days, counted from the date of purchase: 7 GB and 100 minutes, about ₹714 per GB.
- Jio Annual IR ₹2,799 for 365 days: 3 GB and 100 minutes including incoming, about ₹933 per GB.
- Vi Budget ₹4,997 for 365 days: 5 GB and 100 minutes, about ₹999 per GB.
Whichever data line you choose, keep the Indian SIM in the phone for calls and OTPs, mobile data off. OTP texts go to that Indian number, never to a data-only eSIM. For incoming SMS alone, Airtel prepaid lists a ₹118 IR activation for 28 days that “allows unlimited incoming SMS” and needs an active base plan; Vi lists a ₹118 pack with free incoming SMS for 28 days. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you; see keep Indian number for OTP.
According to The PIE News, which reported an MEA reply in the Rajya Sabha, 427,085 Indian students were in Canada as on 1 Jan 2025; their needs differ, so see the student eSIM page. A local SIM after landing means a physical Canada SIM card from a local operator, which needs a free slot. Plan days start at the first connection to a Canadian network. Every plan is on the Canada eSIM page, and the Canada SIM card guide covers local SIMs. Our Global plan also lists Canada; keep that line switched off until you land abroad.
Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn’t work and it isn’t your phone’s fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
How we checked these prices
Each row shows the checked on date and comes from the operator’s own document: Jio’s plan list,
Airtel’s T&C PDF dated 24 Sep 2026 and Vi’s prepaid T&C PDF. The per-GB column divides price by GB and rounds. We took Jio international roaming plans for Canada from Jio’s list, not from news reports of launch prices. Our international roaming Canada coverage, and the USA column, come from each operator’s country lists.
Vi’s country lists are printed as an image, which we transcribed by hand; confirm Canada in the Vi app.
