Airtel postpaid international roaming: two price grids, Roam-Without-Fear and booking rules (T&C dated 24 Sep 2026)
The
Airtel international roaming postpaid grid starts at ₹2,999 for 10 days in every circle except Maharashtra, where a separate grid starts at ₹2,599 for 7 days. Both run to ₹14,999 for 365 days. With no pack, Roam-Without-Fear works day by day, not per trip. Airtel’s T&C are dated 24 Sep 2026.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The table still shows when your operator pack is the better choice. eSIM Go is not affiliated with Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL. Pack details are taken from their own pages on the date shown.
Airtel postpaid IR packs in short
Airtel international roaming postpaid packs sit in two grids in the terms and conditions: PAN India without Maharashtra (§7.1.1) and the Maharashtra circle (§7.1.2). Each has four or five Airtel postpaid IR pack rows, from ₹2,599 to ₹14,999. One set of packs covers every country on Airtel’s list; Airtel advertises 189 countries. Checked 13 Oct 2026.
Prepaid is a different product: packs cost ₹698 to ₹4,999 and none lasts 7 days (Airtel prepaid packs). For a trip-by-trip view across operators, see Jio vs Airtel vs Vi by trip.
All of India except Maharashtra: ₹2,999 for 10 days to ₹14,999 for a year
The national grid has four rows: ₹2,999 for 10 days, ₹3,999 for 30 days, ₹5,999 for 90 days and ₹14,999 for 365 days. The per-day cost falls from about ₹300 to about ₹41. Airtel’s T&C, §7.1.1, checked on 12 Oct 2026; per-day figures are our division of price by days.
| Pack | Days | High-speed data | Minutes · SMS | ≈ ₹ a day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹2,999 | 10 | 10 GB, then 80 kbps | 100 min a day · 20 SMS | about ₹300 |
| ₹3,999 | 30 | 30 GB, then 80 kbps | 100 min a day · 20 SMS, plus in-flight | about ₹133 |
| ₹5,999 | 90 | 40 GB, then 80 kbps | 900 min · 100 SMS | about ₹67 |
| ₹14,999 | 365 | 40 GB, then 80 kbps | 3,000 min · 100 SMS | about ₹41 |
Source: Airtel T&C PDF, §7.1.1, dated 24 Sep 2026. The 30-day, 90-day and 365-day rows also carry an in-flight allowance of 250 MB, 100 minutes and 100 SMS.
Maharashtra circle: its own grid, with the only 7-day postpaid pack
Maharashtra circle customers use a separate Maharashtra price grid (T&C clause 7.1.2, marked “Effective from 19th August”). It holds the only 7-day postpaid pack, ₹2,599, and a 14-day pack at ₹3,499. The 30-, 90- and 365-day rows cost the same as on the national grid.
| Pack | Days | High-speed data | Minutes · SMS | ≈ ₹ a day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹2,599 | 7 | 5 GB | 100 min a day · 10 SMS | about ₹371 |
| ₹3,499 | 14 | 20 GB | 100 min a day · 15 SMS | about ₹250 |
| ₹3,999 | 30 | 30 GB | 100 min a day · 20 SMS | about ₹133 |
| ₹5,999 | 90 | 40 GB | 900 min · 100 SMS | about ₹67 |
| ₹14,999 | 365 | 40 GB | 3,000 min · 100 SMS | about ₹41 |

Short trips cost more per day in both grids. Postpaid data top-ups sit on top of a pack: ₹699 for 2 GB over 5 days, ₹2,499 for 8 GB over 10 days and ₹15,000 for 40 GB over 30 days.
No pack on postpaid: how Roam-Without-Fear caps a day, not a trip
With international roaming on and no pack, Airtel charges standard rates until the day’s charges in that country pass ₹698. It then applies a ₹698 one-day pack (1 GB, 100 minutes in and out, 10 SMS) until 11:59 pm local time. The next day the cycle starts again. Source: Airtel T&C, checked 12 Oct 2026.
Airtel calls this a daily cap on postpaid roaming charges. When the day pack’s benefits run out, data drops to 80 kbps. Further calls and SMS are charged “at discounted rates”. The T&C give no total for a full day. We print no daily or trip total either. Each day restarts the cycle, which is how bill shock builds on a long stay without a pack; the 10-day pack outside Maharashtra costs ₹2,999 up front.
The daily packs appear on your next bill, and the T&C state: “There shall not be any waiver of these charges whatsoever.” You can switch IR off at any time. Credit limit abroad works differently too: Airtel states that “credit-limit as per Airtel is not applicable while in international roaming”, because roaming usage details are not available to Airtel in real time. Airtel also states that the threshold benefits “may be revised from time to time”.
Over several days a booked pack is the predictable option, and you buy it before you fly.
Airtel’s own postpaid pages did not load plan content for us on 12 Oct 2026. Reports of free roaming on new Airtel plans come from third-party posts, so we treat them as unconfirmed: some postpaid and annual plans now bundle a few days of roaming, so check your plan in the Airtel or Vi app before you travel.
Booking, validity and switching IR on for postpaid
Airtel international roaming postpaid packs can be booked up to 365 days before travel, and validity follows the time zone of the country you visit. Prepaid packs book only 30 days ahead and count in IST. To activate IR on postpaid, use the Airtel Thanks app or Airtel customer care; Airtel lists IRSTART and IRSTOP for prepaid only.
The in-flight pack costs ₹195 on postpaid (₹196 prepaid). It lasts 24 hours on partner airlines only, with 250 MB, 100 minutes and 100 SMS. The 500 MB and 1 GB versions cost ₹295 and ₹595.
Searchers ask about “airtel international roaming 149”: the postpaid packs in Airtel’s T&C start at ₹2,599 and ₹2,999, and none is priced at ₹149. Airtel Black or other postpaid plans with roaming are not covered in the T&C we read, so check your plan in the Airtel Thanks app.
Jio sells the same packs to prepaid and postpaid customers (see the Jio packs). Vi’s postpaid table starts at ₹649 for 1 day, and we could not confirm that its country table is current (see the Vi packs).
Postpaid pack vs a data eSIM for 7, 10 and 30 days
An Airtel postpaid pack bundles minutes and an Indian number; a data eSIM carries data only. A 7-day pack exists only in Maharashtra (₹2,599 · 5 GB). A 10-day pack outside it costs ₹2,999 for 10 GB; the 30-day pack costs ₹3,999 for 30 GB. The table puts our Thailand eSIM with the same or nearest data beside them.
| Trip | Airtel postpaid pack | Our Thailand eSIM (data only) |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days | Maharashtra ₹2,599 · 5 GB; none elsewhere | ≈ ₹622 (12 Oct rate) · 5 GB · 30 days |
| 10 days | ₹2,999 · 10 GB | ≈ ₹861 (12 Oct rate) · 10 GB · 30 days |
| 30 days | ₹3,999 · 30 GB | ≈ ₹1,532 (12 Oct rate) · 20 GB · 30 days, our largest fixed-data Thailand plan |
Source: Airtel T&C PDF, checked 12 Oct 2026. The packs include minutes and SMS on your Indian number; the eSIM has no calls and no SMS. Your card is charged in US dollars. Your bank converts the amount at its own rate and may add a foreign-transaction (forex markup) fee. How card payments work.
Pick the pack if you need calls on your Indian number or a 30 GB month. Pick a data eSIM for maps, messaging and rides when you need no calls: install it in India and it connects when you land abroad. For 10-day examples see Thailand and the USA.
Bank OTPs arrive as SMS on your Indian number, which a data eSIM cannot receive. Keep the Airtel SIM in the phone with its data off, and read the OTP guide; no page can promise that every OTP will reach you. Unfamiliar terms: glossary.
