EID number on your phone: what it is, where to find it, and when you need it
An EID number is the serial number of the eSIM chip inside a phone. This page is about that chip number, not an Emirates ID card. GSMA sets its length at 32 digits. Jio,
Airtel and Vi ask for it when you move your Indian number to an eSIM; a travel eSIM from us never does.
What an EID number is
The EID (eUICC Identifier) is a unique serial number for the eSIM chip. GSMA’s EID specification (SGP.29, version 1.1, 22 March 2024) states: “The length of the EID SHALL be 32 digits.” GSMA adds that the EID “is not related to service subscriptions and cannot be used to identify them”.
A plan’s eSIM profile has its own number, the ICCID. Google’s Pixel Help expands EID as “Embedded Identity Document” and gives the reason you meet it: “When you set up a new SIM, you may need to give your operator your phone’s IMEI 1, IMEI 2 or EID numbers.”
Find your EID on an iPhone
Open Settings, tap General, then tap About. Apple Support India 108037 (published 25 May 2026) says: “You may need to scroll down to find the EID, IMEI/MEID and ICCID.” Touch and hold the number to copy it rather than retype 32 digits.
Apple names three other places: the Finder (click Phone Number under the device name), the Devices section of account.apple.com, and the barcode on the original packaging. It names no dialler code. Which iPhone models carry eSIM is in the iPhone eSIM guide.

Find your EID on Samsung, Pixel and other Android phones
On a Pixel, tap About phone, then SIM status, and find “EID” (Google Pixel Help 10402530, checked 20 Oct 2026). The Samsung India pages we read print no EID path. For Samsung and other brands, the only paths we found are on Airtel’s eSIM page, credited in the table.
| Phone | Path | Whose wording |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel | About phone, then SIM status | Google Pixel Help |
| Samsung | About phone, then Status information | Airtel’s eSIM page |
| Motorola | About phone, then eSIM Status information | Airtel’s eSIM page |
| vivo | About phone, then status | Airtel’s eSIM page |
| OPPO and OnePlus | Settings, Mobile Networks, eSIM, switch eSIM on; then About phone, Status information | Airtel’s eSIM page |
If no EID shows, no maker page we read says what that means. The EID belongs to the eSIM chip, so check your model in the eSIM phone list before you buy a plan.
EID vs IMEI vs ICCID: which number support asks for
The EID names the eSIM chip, the IMEI (15 digits on DoT’s CEIR forms; a dual-SIM phone has two) names the phone, and the ICCID one SIM card or eSIM profile; our checkout asks for none of the three. Who asks for which number is in the comparison table of our IMEI number guide, where your travel eSIM’s ICCID sits is in the ICCID guide, and the glossary defines all three.
When you need the EID: turning your Jio, Airtel or Vi number into an eSIM
All three operators ask for the EID when you move your own Indian number from a physical SIM to an eSIM (their pages, read 20 Oct 2026). That is a different job from a travel eSIM, which adds a second line. Their steps stay on their own pages.
Jio heads its step “Enter your EID” and explains: “Your EID is needed to ensure that the eSIM is activated on the right device.” Airtel says: “Enter your 32-digit EID number for the same device.” It also warns: “Do not share EID with anyone, may lead to unauthorised access to your mobile number.” Vi asks you to “Enter EID” and warns that a wrong EID “will lead to failure of profile activation”.
Jio,
Airtel and Vi tell their customers to dial *#06# for the EID; the Apple and Google pages we cite print no such step. Airtel and Vi both say SMS, incoming and outgoing and OTPs included, is barred for 24 hours after the switch. If bank OTPs matter on your trip, read keeping your Indian SIM for OTPs first.
A travel eSIM from us needs no EID from you
Our checkout has one required field, your e-mail address, plus two optional ones: a second e-mail for the person who will use the eSIM, and a promo code. There is no EID field, no IMEI field and no phone-model field. The QR code is sent to the e-mail address you enter.
The order page then shows the QR code and a Manual setup panel, which also lists the ICCID for support tickets. Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad. How to install an eSIM has the taps, and the QR code guide fixes a code that will not scan.
