How to check how much data is left on your travel eSIM
Open the link in your order e-mail and read the Balance card on your order page. It shows data left, days left and the end date, and the Refresh button updates it. The counter in your phone’s settings measures something different, so the two numbers rarely match.
The plan balance on your order page is the number that counts against your eSIM. The phone counter adds up all mobile data since its last reset, and on a dual-SIM phone it can mix lines. Trust the order page for what is left, and use the phone counter only to see which apps use the data.
See your balance on the order page
Your order page has a Balance card under the QR code. It shows data left, days left and the end date of the plan. Your order page is private to your order, so open it from the link in your order e-mail. The card loads on its own each time you open the page.
- Open the link in your order e-mail.
- Find the Balance card under the QR code.
- Read the two tiles: Data and Days.
- Tap Refresh to update the numbers.
The card also shows the plan’s status: “Not activated yet”, “Active”, “Data used up” or “Expired”. Until the plan activates, the Days tile reads “They start counting at activation”. For almost every destination we sell, that is the first connection to a network abroad; the country page states the rule. If the network cannot be reached, the card says “Balance not available yet” and offers “Try again”.
How to find data usage on iPhone: reset it when you land
To find data usage on iPhone, use the Mobile Data screen. Apple’s iPhone guide says it shows how much data each app used, and that Reset Statistics sits at the bottom of that screen. Reset it on landing to count only this trip. Apple’s own note: for the most accurate usage in a current period, contact your carrier.
To read it: open Settings, tap Mobile Data (labelled Cellular on some iPhones), scroll to the app list and tap Show All. Per Apple, with Dual SIM the amount shown is for your selected cellular data number. Switch mobile data to your eSIM line first, then read the figures.
The guide to keeping your Indian SIM for OTPs explains the dual-SIM settings.
Phone counters on Android
On a Pixel, Google’s help page gives this path: Settings, then Network & internet, then SIMs. The top of that screen shows total data used, and App data usage shows graphs for a period you pick. Menu names differ on other makers’ phones; if the steps do not match, check your phone maker’s help pages.
The same page lets you set a data warning under Data warning & limit. We suggest a warning at about 80% of your plan, for example 4 GB on a 5 GB plan. When it goes off, check the order page.
Unlimited plans: the daily line
An unlimited plan has a daily fair-use line. In our catalogue on 12 Oct 2026, the unlimited plans for Thailand and Europe give 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps. Our Vietnam unlimited plans give 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
On these plans the Balance card shows ∞ with the daily limit next to it. Its note reads “Total volume is not counted”, so the daily limit is the figure to watch. On 10 days with a 5 GB daily line, full speed adds up to 50 GB only if you spread use evenly. After 5 GB in a day the speed drops to 1 Mbps; the next day does not lend you its share. Our unlimited plans guide covers the daily line for each country.
Running low: what to do next
Multiply the days left by 0.3 GB a day for maps and messaging, or by 0.8 GB a day for social media and photos. If the result is more than the Data tile shows, plan for more data. How much data do I need has the 1.7 and 3.0 GB profiles.
Top-ups are not available on this site yet, so the fix is a second plan. Open the country page, such as Thailand or Europe, and buy another plan. It is a separate eSIM with its own QR code and its own e-mail. Install it, keep that line switched off, and turn it on with mobile data when the first plan runs out.
If the card reads “Active” but the phone shows no signal, that is a connection problem: see eSIM shows no signal. The help hub lists every symptom.
FAQ
Why does my phone show more data used than my eSIM plan?
The phone counter adds up usage since its last reset and can include your Indian line. Reset it when you land and read only the eSIM line. The plan balance on your order page is the one that counts against your plan.
Does the Balance card show a daily limit for unlimited plans?
Yes. It shows ∞ with the daily limit next to it, for example “Unlimited (5 GB/day at high speed, then 1 Mbps)” on our Thailand plans, and the note “Total volume is not counted”. The daily limit is the figure to watch.
Can I top up my eSIM when data runs low?
Top-ups are not available on this site yet. When data runs low, buy a second plan for the same country. It is a separate eSIM with its own QR code; keep it switched off and turn it on when the first plan runs out.
