# Vi (Vodafone Idea) international roaming packs: prepaid & postpaid (checked 12 Oct 2026)

Vi international roaming packs for prepaid numbers, with minutes or data, run from ₹495 for 3 days (voice only) to ₹6,995 for 28 days. A ₹118 pack makes only incoming SMS free. The catch is the zone: Ultra packs are unlimited in 40 countries and capped at 2 to 5 GB in 101 others, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, China and South Korea.

## Vi international roaming in short (checked 12 Oct 2026)

Vodafone Idea international roaming comes as separate Vi IR packs for prepaid and postpaid numbers. Prepaid packs with minutes or data cost ₹495 to ₹6,995, and what you get depends on which of two zones you visit: 40 "UL" countries or 101 "non-UL" countries. Vi prepaid IR packs do not apply in J&K, Assam and the North East.

Three rules decide most trips. Check your circle. Vi's prepaid T&C say "IR packs are not applicable for customers in J&K, Assam and North East". They add that "Prepaid International roaming is not applicable to customers of Assam and North east circle". Check your destination's zone, because the same pack gives different data in each. Buy before you fly: without a pack, mobile data stays off.

## Vi prepaid: UL zone vs non-UL zone, and why "unlimited" is not everywhere

Vi splits prepaid roaming countries into a 40-country UL zone, where Ultra packs give unlimited data and calls, and a 101-country non-UL zone, where the same pack gives a fixed allowance. For example, the ₹3,495 7-day Ultra pack gives 2 GB in the non-UL zone.

The UL zone lists these countries: Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom, USA, Vatican City and Vietnam.

Popular destinations that sit in the non-UL zone are Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, China and South Korea. We derived this by comparing the two zone lists in Vi's T&C. There, the Ultra packs give a fixed allowance: 2 GB on the 7-day pack, 3 GB on the 10-day pack and 5 GB on the 14-day pack. Two caveats. The country page of Vi's T&C is an image, so we transcribed the names by hand; the counts match Vi's headings (40 and 101). And Vi's table heads these packs "Unlimited Packs" and marks UL-zone data as "FREE" without printing a fair-use threshold, so we do not claim the data is uncapped in practice. Confirm your country in the Vi app before you pay. The T&C carry the full countries list.

## Ultra, iRoamFree and Budget packs (table)

Vi's prepaid T&C list six iRoamFree packs, three of them Ultra, from ₹695 for 1 day to ₹6,995 for 28 days, plus Budget packs at ₹495 to ₹4,997. Incoming calls are free on iRoamFree packs. All rows were read on 12 Oct 2026.

Budget packs use two country sets: Set 1 (61 countries, including Thailand and Japan) and Set 2 (80).

## Haj pack and South Asia pack

The Vi [Haj pack](/hajj-umrah-esim/) costs ₹1,199 for 20 days (2 GB, 150 outgoing minutes) or ₹2,388 for 40 days (4 GB, 300 minutes), valid in Saudi Arabia, UAE and Iraq. The South Asia pack costs ₹1,899 for 5 days at 1 GB a day. Checked 12 Oct 2026.

Both Haj packs work out at about ₹600 per GB (our derivation). The South Asia pack gives 5 GB over 5 days if you use the full daily 1 GB, about ₹380 per GB. All five of its countries ([Indonesia](/international-sim/indonesia/), Thailand, [Sri Lanka](/international-sim/sri-lanka/), Singapore, Malaysia) are also on the UL list above, so an Ultra pack is the other Vi option there.

## Vi postpaid packs: what we can and cannot confirm

Vi's postpaid T&C (file dated 6 Oct 2026) list unlimited packs, from ₹749 for 1 day to ₹5,999 for 30 days, in two country sets: 59 countries with unlimited data and 112 with a data cap. We cannot confirm the country table is current, so treat every row as a lead to check in the Vi app.

Above the table, the same PDF says future-date requests for old packs raised as of 15 May 2026 "will be activated with the old pack benefits". So the benefits that apply to your account may differ from this grid.

The T&C also list standard packs, from ₹649 for 1 day with 1 GB to ₹3,999 for 30 days with 30 GB, the same in both sets. With no pack active, an "IR rental" of ₹149 a month applies, and after a pack ends an "Always On" rate of ₹749 a day. Book a pack before departure.

Some postpaid and annual plans now bundle a few days of roaming — check your plan in the Airtel or Vi app before you travel. We could not confirm those plan details on Vi's own pages on 12 Oct 2026, so this page quotes none. The one bundle Vi's roaming page does describe is for REDX postpaid: an "inbuilt 7 days pack worth Rs.2999", claimed in the Vi app.

## How to activate Vi roaming, and RoamSafe

Vi's FAQ gives three ways to switch on international roaming: SMS ACT IMRS to 199, use the Vi app's International Roaming section, or recharge with any IR pack. Standard roaming rates apply until a pack is active. You can buy a pack up to 180 days ahead in the Vi app and 90 days ahead on the website.

Vi lists these steps "For all customers (except ROB & KOL)". If that exception covers your number, ask Vi customer care how to activate.

RoamSafe is Vi's data safety switch. Without an IR pack, mobile data stays off abroad. If you land without a pack, SMS ACT IRDATA to 199 turns data on for 2 days at standard rates. Vi's T&C set those rates country by country, so check yours in the Vi app first.

Incoming SMS need a pack too. Vi's FAQ says prepaid customers must "recharge with Rs 118 or any other IR pack with service validity to receive incoming sms abroad". The ₹118 pack lasts 28 days and makes incoming SMS free. Calls and data stay at standard rates. Postpaid customers need the ₹149 IR service pack or any other IR pack.

A r/VodafoneIdeaIndia user wrote on 28 Jun 2026 that a Jio SIM latched on abroad without a pack, but after switching to Vi "it's not connecting to any foreign networks". Another user in the same thread wrote on 11 Aug 2026: "I activated international roaming before travelling and only added a pack when I needed regular calls or data." ## Vi pack vs a travel eSIM for your trip

A Vi pack bundles minutes on your Indian number; a data eSIM carries data only. Vi's Budget ₹995 pack gives 1.25 GB for 10 days in Set 1 countries, about ₹796 per GB (our derivation). Which one fits depends on whether you need calls on your Indian number and on your destination's zone.

For a Thailand trip the numbers sit side by side like this. Vi: ₹1,899 for 5 GB over 5 days on the South Asia pack, or Budget ₹2,998 for 5 GB over 30 days in Set 1 countries, as listed on 12 Oct 2026. Thailand is also in the UL zone, so Ultra packs, ₹3,495 for 7 days to ₹5,195 for 14 days, apply there. On our Thailand eSIM, 1 GB over 7 days costs ≈ ₹286 (12 Oct rate), 2 GB over 15 days ≈ ₹526 (12 Oct rate). 5 GB over 30 days costs ≈ ₹622 (12 Oct rate), about ₹125 (US$1.30) per GB, charged US$6.49. **Pick the Vi pack** if you need calls on your Indian number or a Haj pack for [Saudi Arabia](/international-sim/saudi-arabia/), UAE or Iraq. Our eSIM includes no calls.

**Pick a data eSIM** if you mainly need maps, messaging and bookings, or you are going to a non-UL country such as Japan or Switzerland where an Ultra pack drops to 2 to 5 GB. Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad ([install guide](/how-to-install-esim/)).

**Use both** if you want OTPs. Bank OTPs arrive as SMS on your Indian number, and a data eSIM cannot receive them. Keep your Vi SIM in the phone with its mobile data off, keep the ₹118 SMS pack or another IR pack active on prepaid, and ask Vi whether SMS works in your destination. No page can promise that every OTP will reach you.
