# Jio, Airtel & Vi roaming in Italy vs a travel eSIM (checked 19 Oct 2026)

Jio international roaming plans for Italy are multi-country packs, Airtel sells one prepaid set for every country it covers, and only Vi's lists also name Vatican City. The 11 packs in our tables cost ₹599 to ₹3,495 (about ₹194–₹796 per GB where the data is capped), checked 19 Oct 2026.

## Short answer: all three cover Italy; Vatican City is on Vi's lists only

In our tables, Jio's ₹1,551 pack is the lowest per GB (8 GB over 14 days, about ₹194) and Vi's ₹995 Budget pack the highest (about ₹796). For a week, Airtel's ₹1,298 (6 GB, 10 days) comes first by the per-trip test, at about ₹216. Vi's ₹3,495 Ultra week prints its Italy data as FREE.

Which Indian SIM works in Italy? A Jio, Airtel or Vi SIM works once international roaming is on, but for mobile data, plan on a roaming pack: without one, Airtel bars prepaid data abroad and Vi keeps mobile data off. Our Italy eSIM from India carries data only.

India's Ministry of Tourism counts 201,869 departures to Italy in 2025, about 7% fewer than 2024's 217,002 (our calculation). Of the 2025 departures, 53.01% were for leisure or business.

## Jio in Italy: the 100-country packs and the data packs

There is no Jio Italy pack as such. Italy is on five Jio lists: 100-country, World Pack, 75-country, data packs and the Global Pack balance. The rows below are a selection (2 Nov 2026). Prepaid and postpaid Jio users get the same packs.

After the high-speed data, these packs slow to up to 64 kbps. On pack validity, Jio states: "Your plan validity begins only with your first usage—call, text, or data." The Global Pack (₹1,101 or ₹1,102, 28 days) is a ₹933.05 or ₹933.90 balance spent at standard roaming rates, not a data pack. World Pack and 75-country rows are on our [Jio page](/roaming/jio/).

## Airtel and Vi packs for Italy (table)

The Airtel IR pack Italy trips run on is Airtel's single prepaid set for every covered country. Vi roaming Italy follows its zones: Italy is in the prepaid UL zone and Budget Set 1. There the Ultra packs (₹3,495 for 7 days, ₹4,695 for 10, ₹5,195 for 14) print the data as FREE, calls included, per Vi.

Airtel's prepaid validity starts when your phone latches on to a covered foreign network and makes chargeable usage. Book up to 30 days before travel; if you do not travel within 30 days, the pack expires with no reimbursement.

Airtel's FAQ page still shows older prices than its T&C dated 24 Sep 2026. Vi's prepaid T&C say IR packs are "not applicable for customers in J&K, Assam and North East". Vi's postpaid Set 1 lists Italy too, with data printed as FREE on its unlimited packs; we could not confirm that this country table is current.

## Rome with Vatican City, San Marino or Malta: which list names each

Vatican City is named on three Vi lists (prepaid UL, Budget Set 1, postpaid Set 1) and on no Jio or Airtel list. San Marino is on none of them. Malta is on every Jio, Airtel and Vi list that names Italy. These are list facts, checked 19 Oct 2026, not coverage promises.

BSNL's partner lists (partner networks, not packs) name Italy on both, Malta on the postpaid list only, and neither Vatican City nor San Marino.

## Cost per GB for a 7-day and a 14-day Italy trip

The test, on prices checked 19 Oct 2026: each operator's shortest pack that lasts the whole trip, ranked by ₹ per GB (our division of price by data), with Vi's FREE-data rows left out.

A week at 0.8 GB a day needs 5.6 GB (our calculation, social-media profile in our [data guide](/how-much-data-do-i-need/)). Airtel's 10-day ₹1,298 comes first at about ₹216 per GB. Jio's 7-day fit is the ₹599 data pack, with no calls, at about ₹599; with calls, ₹951 lasts 10 days but holds 4 GB, 1.6 GB short. With the Ultra week left out, Vi's fit is the 10-day ₹995 Budget pack, last at about ₹796.

A fortnight needs 11.2 GB. Jio's 14-day ₹1,551 comes first at about ₹194 per GB but holds 8 GB, 3.2 GB short; ₹2,851 buys 12 GB over 30 days, ₹1,300 more. Airtel has no 14-day prepaid pack, so its fit is the 30-day ₹2,998 at about ₹300. With the 14-day Ultra (₹5,195) left out, Vi's fit is the 15-day ₹1,495 Budget pack, a day longer, at about ₹748.

Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
