# APN settings for a travel eSIM on iPhone and Android

## Short answer: what an APN is and when you type it

APN stands for Access Point Name, the setting that tells your phone how to reach a mobile data network. Most travel eSIMs set it themselves. In our catalogue on 12 Oct 2026, 103 of 346 country plan entries need it typed on Android only, and 4 on iPhone too. Install the eSIM in India; it connects when you land abroad.

The APN settings for your plan sit on the country page and on your order page, so this page prints no APN values.

## Which of our plans need a manual APN

Our count from the plan catalogue on 12 Oct 2026: 239 of 346 country plan entries set the APN automatically on iPhone and Android. 103 need it typed on Android only. 4 need it typed on both, in Colombia, Panama and Venezuela. An entry is one plan type for one destination, usually sold in several data sizes, across 203 destinations.

| Plans (our count, 12 Oct 2026) | Entries | iPhone | Android |
|---|---|---|---|
| Country plans, automatic | 239 | Automatic | Automatic |
| Country plans, Android manual | 103 | Automatic | Type the APN |
| Country plans, both manual (Colombia, Panama, Venezuela) | 4 | Type the APN | Type the APN |
| Regional plans: Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, Latin America, the whole world | 6 of 8 | Automatic | Type the APN |
| Regional plans: Middle East, the Caribbean | 2 of 8 | Automatic | Automatic |

Our table counts the catalogue's own APN flags, read 12 Oct 2026.

Regional plans are the common manual case on Android, for example [Europe](/esim-europe/) and [the whole world](/esim-global/). Six destinations hold entries with different rules. The country page then shows "APN set manually on Android", and the order page states the rule for the plan you bought. Follow the order page.

## Enter the APN on an iPhone

On an iPhone you type nothing for 342 of the 346 country entries and for all eight regional plans, because the catalogue marks their iPhone APN as automatic. Only the four entries in Colombia, Panama and Venezuela ask for APN settings by hand. None is a top destination for Indian travellers.

For those four, open Settings, Mobile Service, the eSIM line, then Mobile Data Network, and enter the value from your order page. That is the path our order page prints. Apple names the same screen Mobile Data Network and warns: "If you enter incorrect APN settings, you may lose mobile data connectivity."

Type it on the eSIM line only. A value typed on the Indian line's own screen changes your Jio, Airtel or Vi settings and leaves the eSIM without data.

## Enter the APN on Android (Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, Motorola)

For APN settings on Android, open Settings, Connections, Mobile networks, Access point names, pick the eSIM line and enter the value from your order page. That is the path our order page prints, in Samsung's menu names. Samsung India's mobile data help gives the same Access point names path (updated 11 Sep 2024).

On a [Pixel](/esim-google-pixel/), Google lists Access Point Names among the settings under Settings, Network & internet, SIMs. Pick the eSIM line there first. OnePlus and Motorola label the screens differently, and we found no path on their own pages, so we print none. Look for Access Point Names in the mobile network options of the eSIM line.

Do this after installing the eSIM. Without the APN, the plan can show a network name and load no pages. [The Android install steps](/how-to-install-esim/android/) give the order. If you typed the value on the Indian SIM's screen, open Access point names on that SIM and use Reset to default from the More menu, the step Samsung India prints.

## Still no data after the APN

If the eSIM is still not working after the APN, check four things. The eSIM is the mobile data line, data roaming is on for the eSIM, mobile data is off on the Indian SIM, and you are in a country the plan covers. Restart the phone once.

Then compare the value you typed with the order page, character by character. The [no-signal checklist](/help/esim-no-signal/) covers picking the network by hand and what to send support.

Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed. The [iPhone steps](/how-to-install-esim/iphone/), the [help hub](/help/) and the [glossary](/glossary/#apn) cover the rest.

## FAQ

### What is the full form of APN?

APN stands for Access Point Name, the setting your phone uses to connect to a mobile data network. Most travel eSIMs fill it in automatically. When a plan needs APN settings typed, the country page and your order page show the value.

### What is APN meaning for a travel eSIM?

An APN is the gateway name your phone uses to reach mobile data. Without a working one, a travel eSIM can show a network name and load no pages. Of our 346 country plan entries on 12 Oct 2026, 107 ask you to type it on Android, and 4 of those on iPhone too.

### Do I need to change APN settings on an iPhone?

Usually not. For 342 of 346 country plan entries and every regional plan, the catalogue marks the iPhone APN as automatic. The exceptions are four entries in Colombia, Panama and Venezuela, where you enter the value from your order page on the eSIM line.

### Why is my eSIM not working after I entered the APN?

Check the data line and roaming. The eSIM must be the mobile data line, with data roaming on for the eSIM and mobile data off on your Indian SIM. Restart once. Full refund within 30 days of purchase, as long as the eSIM has not connected to any network. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
